ALL PUPPIES SPOKEN FOR PENDING PICK UP!!

Adaeze and Arlo's puppies are Multigen Splash Cavapoos with a "dash of Springer"!  At Pleasant Meadows, it is our ever present goal to only raise healthy puppies and our Multigen Cavapoo, Arlo, has 3 generations of health clear Cavapoos behind him and Adaeze provides much needed genetic diversity to the Cavalier.  This mixture will create puppies that are similar to the F1 Cavapoo in terms of their temperament, and you can be assured of their health because not only do we have the knowledge and history of the past 3 generations behind Arlo, but both he and Adaeze are health screened for their breed panel of diseases (diseases common to the breeds in their mix), and also for a total of 254 diseases and traits known to dogs in general.

We are anticipating the litter to have a mixture of fur types with some puppies having curly/fluffy fur and some puppies having a coat more similar to the Cavalier and Springer.
Adaeze carries two copies of the low shedding gene, and so even the puppies with the straighter coats will be very low to non-shedding when paired with Arlo's non-shedding curly fur. And the curly coats will also be very low to non-shedding.  This mix is also called a "Springalierpoo", but we have chosen to refer to them by our Cavapoo terminology as Adaeze and Arlo's puppies will be primarily a Cavalier and Poodle mixture.

8 week old puppy update:

Adaeze and Arlo's puppies are 8 weeks old and are all set to go to their new homes!  We have families picking up starting this Friday and lasting into November -- we just have one girl puppy "Celeste" available in this litter!

All of the puppies have been absolutely thriving and are eager to explore and learn new things!  We are very impressed with the high intelligence we have seen in this litter, and our vet was equally impressed with their overall health and calm demeanors for their health exam.

The puppies are eating the following:

Angus -- 1.5 slices of 1st Moz ... x 3 meals per day

Yogi -- 2 slices of 1st Moz ... x 3 meals per day

Remy -- 1.5 slices of 1st Moz ... x 3 meals per day

Odin -- 1.5 slices of 1st Moz ... x 3 meals per day

Otis -- 1.5 slices of 1st Moz ... x 3 meals per day

Sophie -- 1.5 slices of 1st Moz ... x 3 meals per day

Celeste -- 1.5 slices of 1st Moz ... x 3 meals per day

Lola -- 1.5 slices of 1st Moz ... x 3 meals per day

Tika -- 1 slice of 1st Moz ... x 3 meals per day

Jovie -- 1.5 slices of 1st Moz ... x 3 meals per day

We recommend cutting their food into cubes as seen below:

Two segments of large lines measures as TWO SLICES

You can increase your puppy's food intake by HALF or a FULL slice every 2 weeks until 12 weeks of age when your vet can gauge your puppy's rate of growth.  This is an approximate guideline (as it is with all food types), and you can increase based on body condition, or decrease if your puppy needs less food.  We will send you home with a body condition score chart to help you determine a good body weight for your puppy.

At this time, the puppies are sleeping approximately from 10:00 PM to 6:00 AM in the crate.  You can still expect to let your puppy outside 1-2 times in the night for the first 3 to 5 days as they get used to sleeping in a completely new area in your home and without their siblings and other familiarities.

The puppies are highly food motivated and so teaching the puppies to "sit" has been a breeze and you will have lots of fun teaching them new skills and tricks in your home!

As you can see, we had the puppies outside for their photos again today, but they have been spending time outside to work on their potty training as well.  All of the puppies are quite comfortable doing their potty habits outside, and they love to run around and play in the leaves!

We can't wait for everyone to see their puppies again soon at pick up!  We'll end their final 8 week update with a video of the puppies playing outside:

6 week old puppy update:

Adaeze and Arlo's puppies are 6 weeks old!  And we have been working on getting the puppies on a feeding schedule for when they go home in 2 weeks.  The puppies are also being transitioned over to 1st Moz (cold pasteurized raw) for ease of storage, handling, and the drive home for puppy families.  We will do a bonus update soon to let you know how much the puppies are eating, but at this stage they are still eating as a group.

As you can also see, the puppies have had some time outside, and they quite enjoyed watching the leaves falling around them and all the vibrant colours when we took their photos!  And the puppies have begun to learn how to "sit" and we think they nailed it
(see group photo at the bottom of this update!).

The puppies are excelling in their crate training and are quite content spending time in the crate throughout the day, and we are starting to close the crate door at night for part of the night.  Here is a quick video clip
(click the link -- it was "too short" to embed on our website) of the puppies hanging out in the crate -- they all love soft blankets and like to chew and rub on the soft texture, but it all adds to their overall good experience in the crate.  The puppies are all content to be in the crate and not trying to leave even though the door is open.

We are very impressed with how well the puppies have done with their desensitization to various sights and sounds.  They are very easy going, showing little reaction to loud noises, different objects, and they quite enjoy being groomed which makes taking care of these puppies a breeze.

Over the next week, we hope to continue to build the puppies confidence with fun activities like playing in tunnels (judging distance, depth perception while having something overtop of them), and seeing what they think of a wobble board (balance and co-ordination, plus confidence building), etc.  This is such an incredible litter that we are excited to see what they do with these challenges!

The puppies were dewormed again this week, and here are their weights:

We will aim for another video over the next week, and we will highlight the puppies progress in various areas.

The puppies vet appointment is booked for Tuesday, October 25th, 2022 -- as another reminder, please call ahead to the vet of your choice and book an appointment for approximately 4 weeks
(1 month) from the 25th for their 12 week vaccination.

4 week old puppy update:

Adaeze and Arlo's puppies are 4 weeks old today and they are blossoming into sweet little toddlers!  The 4 week update usually shows the most dramatic change as puppies do a lot of maturing within their first month of life!  The puppies are vibrant and eager to explore new things -- and all of the puppies loved the bright sunflower set this week and were curious about the flowers!  Dogs see yellow and blue the best, so this set is like BAM, WOW, WHAMO colour for their eyes!

We are working hard on weaning the puppies from Adaeze and getting them on a raw diet, as 10 puppies is a huge strain on any mom!  This does not mean that Adaeze is absent from interacting with the puppies -- weaning simply means trying an alternate food.  Adaeze can spend time with her puppies while wearing a onesie "jumpsuit" that prevents nursing, but Adaeze is free to play with her puppies, clean her puppies, and spend time with them to teach them vital social cues.  Adaeze is still nursing the puppies at night at this stage.

This was bath day for the puppies!! They have really had fun diving into their food dish and have ended up wearing more food than they eat, but its all in the learning experience -- just like how toddlers play with their food too!  Our update was delayed today because the puppies dove into their dish! It was quite the task to bathe all 10 puppies, and here is the proof of the aftermath amidst the heap of 10 towels!

Afterwards, the puppies fell asleep in a laundry basket that was used to carry them from the bathroom back to their whelping box!  Bathing to get cute again is tiring work!

Along with their bath today, the puppies also had their nails trimmed, and the fur in front of their eyes trimmed as a part of their routine care that should be continued throughout their lives based on their fur types.  You may have noticed that we included our observations for fur type in the photo gallery at the top of this update, plus below now that we were able to see how their fur looked after a bath.

We have also dewormed the puppies this week and their weights are as follows:

Bromley -- 4 weeks.jpg

The puppies continue to do well and are all gaining weight daily, and at this stage we can start to see a difference in size as their individual statures become more visible.  It's normal to see them start to grow at different rates as puppies are individual just like people are, but in a litter where there is a huge amount of genetic diversity it not only opens the doors for better health but a wide range of colours, sizes, and structures are possible.

We have captured a video of the puppies playing with their toys and each other, and it's clear to see what happy little darlings these puppies are:

Puppy choosing begins next week and we will post updates as the puppies are matched to families throughout the 7th to 10th, so please check back each evening to see which puppies have been paired with a family!

The list is filling up nicely for having such a large litter, but if you know of someone looking for a puppy -- please consider sharing Adaeze and Arlo's puppies with them!

Our next scheduled update when the puppies turn 6 weeks old will be on:

Thursday, October 13th, 2022

Hope you enjoy the video and we look forward to meeting all the families for their visits and Skypes!

2 week old puppy update:

Adaeze and Arlo's puppies are 2 weeks old! The litter as a whole has nearly tripled in size, and all of the puppies are doing wonderful under Adaeze's care!  We are also continuing to supplement feed the puppies with goats milk, and Adaeze is eating 5x's her normal daily food amount to keep up with her hungry brood!  Because of the large size of this litter, we will be starting the puppies on raw food as soon as possible (mixed with goats milk at first) to ensure that they are getting enough nutrition, and in the process it will further take the pressure off Adaeze.

The puppies were born a few days early
(normal in large litters), and as to be expected their eyes haven't opened yet, but a few are "peeking" at the corners.  Puppies eyes usually open around 14 days, but can be as late as 18 days before opening.  Around the time that their eyes open, their ears also open so the sensory explosion that takes place must be pretty spectacular!  The only senses that the puppies have known thus far is touch, taste, and smell, and it is always incredible to watch the puppies intellect and curiosity develop as they gain sight and hearing!

At this time, puppies do a lot of sleeping, but we are amazed at the strength of this litter as they have actually been nearly walking instead of just crawling around their whelping box.  So, while their eyes are not yet open, they are advanced in their motor skills and their ability to sightlessly navigate their whelping box to find their mom.

Once their eyes and ears open, we will begin to add various toys to inspire their curiosity and to create opportunities for play, and we will begin introducing different sound recordings like thunderstorms, train whistles, traffic noises, power tools, etc. as a part of their desensitization to sounds they may encounter in the big world.

This week we are giving the link to the Taking Home Puppy Online Instructional to help prepare you for adding a puppy to your home and providing care and training tips for the 1st year of your puppy's life.  For those on Adaeze and Arlo's list -- please see your e-mail for the 2-week old puppy update for the link and page password.

We ask that all families on the list take advantage of the information on the Instructional, as it is there for your own benefit and it has proven to be a huge help to families who take the time to read it and explore the resources on the page.

We weighed the puppies for their 1st deworming in the series of dewormings that they will received before leaving Pleasant Meadows, and you can see their weights below along with their times of birth:

As you can see, the puppies are all at a very even weight with only a mere ounce or two separating some of them -- this is a huge accomplishment for Adaeze and her wonderful mothering skills!

We will begin e-mailing families on Adaeze and Arlo's list soon to schedule puppy viewings either in-person or via Skype video call for the 5-week mark -- please be patient while waiting to hear from us while we work our way down the list for scheduling!

Our next scheduled puppy update will be when the puppies turn 4 weeks old on:

September 29th, 2022

Hope you enjoyed this week's update!

Please remember to share with your family and friends that with this being such a large litter, we do have puppies available!

Birth Announcement:

Adaeze and Arlo's puppies arrived on September 1st, 2022!  Adaeze gave birth a few days before her first anticipated due date, which can be normal with large litters -- and Adaeze definitely delivered a large litter of 10 puppies total!  This is actually our largest litter in Pleasant Meadows history, so Adaeze has set a record!  The litter is also unique because not only are there 5 boys and 5 girls -- surprisingly, all 5 boys were born first and then followed by all 5 girls!  We have never seen that happen before!

Adaeze had an easy and relaxed birthing of her puppies with several puppies coming minutes apart and then Adaeze was able to take welcome naps between starting again.  Naps are common during the birthing process and it's nature's way of making sure that a mom doesn't get too tired -- a dog can "pause" labour for a few hours in order to get some well earned sleep!  The puppies were born between 4:32 PM and 12:57 AM -- with the majority of the litter arriving on the 1st and the final 10th puppy arrived at 12:57 AM on September 2nd.

The litter was strong as a whole, but one puppy was born with lots of fluid in her lungs which took a lot of time and work to clear so that she could breathe easily
(she is thriving now!).  And the last puppy was too weak to nurse initially due to the prolonged time inside Adaeze waiting for her turn to enter the world -- she needed a colostrum boost, supplementing of goats milk and Nutrical gel to provide her with enough energy to get going and catch up with her siblings (she is also thriving now!). All of the puppies are eagerly nursing, gaining weight daily, and are strong and active!

We waited to announce Adaeze and Arlo's puppies to ensure that all of them were healthy, and we have spent the past 6 days monitoring them closely, and supplementing all of the puppies as well as Adaeze.  We have also been rotating the puppies to nurse in groups of five which allows each group to have fuller bellies at a given feeding because this gives them access to more nipples to nurse instead of being spread thinly amongst 10 puppies, and Adaeze's milk has time to replenish before the next group nurses.

Adaeze is a phenomenal mother, keeping her puppies very clean and she cares for them in a gentle and confident "get 'er done" fashion.  We are so proud of Adaeze for this amazing litter of 10 puppies!

We took photos of the puppies today, grouping the 5 boys and 5 girls separately so that you can see which are boys and which are girls.  Their next update will be on September 15th when the litter turns 2 weeks old, and for that update we will have ID names to help identify each puppy and help you relate to them as individuals.  Please share with your family and friends that we have puppies available in this litter!

Hope you enjoy the photos of these precious sweethearts:

Colouring for the BOYS:
