8 week old update:

The puppies will be 8 weeks old on the 26th, but we're sending out there 8 week update a few days early to coincide with their visit to the vet today! The puppies were at our vet today and wow was it as blast! The whole clinic fell in love with the puppies and literally spent about half an hour sitting on the floor playing with the puppies! Our vet wanted to take Wilbur home, and the other staff members each had their own favourite puppy too!
During their health examination here is what was checked on each puppy:
- Eyes (checked for abnormalities or discharge)
- Ears (checked for redness/infection)
- Mouth & throat (checked for gum colour, swallow reflex,)
- Heart (checked for irregular heartbeat patterns)
- Lungs (checked for rhythmic breaths and clarity of lungs)
- Stomach palpitation (checked for any signs of bloating, discomfort, or the presence of a hernia)
- Flexion of joints (checked for fluid movement of joints)
- Postural Reflexes (the "paw flip test" checks for proper neurological function where the paw is flipped under so the pads face upwards towards the belly. This is done to see how quickly the puppy rights it's paw so that the pads are flat on the ground/surface again the way a dog would normally bear weight/stand)
- Equilibrium (checked balance by turning the puppy on it's back to make sure the puppy can roll upright again)
- Temperature (checked for normal body temperature)
- Weight (checked for healthy weight and growth rate)
- Because the puppies were found to be in excellent health -- all of the puppies received their 1st shot which covers Parvovirus, Distemper, Adenovirus, Parainfluenza.
- Dewormed by vet with Strongid T according to weight.
The puppies weights are as follows:
Marcus (Green Boy) -- 4.9 LBS (2.2 KG)
Kobi (Orange Boy) -- 4.8 LBS (2.16 KG)
Wilbur (Blue Boy) -- 2.9 LBS (1.33 KG)
Honey (Pink Girl) -- 4.5 LBS (2.06 KG)
Maddy (Purple Girl) -- 3.7 LBS (1.7 KG)
All of the puppies were found to be in absolute excellent health and were brave for their shot, no whimpers! Their first shot is considered a booster shot, and your puppy will need to receive their second vaccination about 4 weeks from now (approximately 12 weeks of age). We recommend phoning in advance and booking your appointment with your vet for September 21st (exactly 4 weeks from now). We also recommend having your puppy dewormed again upon the 12-week visit -- worms are an ongoing reality!
The puppies are eating about 1/4 of a cup of softened kibbles that have been soaked in hot water for about 5-10 minutes, and they are eating 3 times a day around 8:00 AM, 3:00 PM and again at 8:00 PM. This schedule can be changed to fit your household -- it's simply important to provide evenly spaced out meals so that your puppy can eat frequently throughout the day but still providing enough time between meals to digest the food.
So far the puppies have been sleeping in the crate from about 10:00 PM to about 7:00 AM as a group all cuddled together. You can anticipate some whimpering for about 15 or so minutes as that is what we have seen here before the puppies settle down for the night, but their scent blanket will help to ease them into their new homes. The puppies have also experienced time in a plastic crate, and it was what we used to take the puppies to the vet in today! All of the puppies did really well on the vehicle ride to the vet (1 hour each way) and there were no puppy throw ups or messes in the crate!
The litter has surpassed our expectations and amazed us in so many ways -- they are social and wonderful happy and healthy puppies that truly epitomize what the Cavapoo is and truly show off the wonderful Cavalier nature that is still present even in an F1B Cavapoo which is 75% Poodle -- and they sure have the Poodle smarts too!
We look forward to seeing you all again when you come to pick up your puppy! We'll e-mail you all with particulars very soon! We're just in the process of uploading a video of the puppies, but it was getting late and decided to get the update out and we'll add the video very shortly. The video is of the puppies playing outside, plus we've added in some video we captured of our vet and staff interacting with the puppies! So stay tuned!
We're going to let the video speak for itself in this update!

6 week old update:
Click on the photos to enlarge!
Daphne and Trenton's puppies are now 6 weeks old! They are completely weaned from mom other than the occasional comfort nurse and they are eating and drinking water on their own now! The puppies are eating 3 full meals a day of the Wholesome Blend Salmon formula with a little canned food mixed into the morning meal.
We have been able to give the puppies lots of outdoor time this past week, and as you can see from the photos -- they are practically "one with nature"! The puppies have been able to go to the bathroom outside while they explore the outdoors! While inside, they are hitting the pee-pad area about 85% of the time -- and all the misses are in close proximity (within inches).
The puppies will start their crate training this week! First we will place the crate in their puppy pen area for them to run in and out throughout the day and then slowly work on closing the door for short periods of time and then eventually closing the door at night around the 7 week mark.
The maturity of the puppies has really impressed us! They are all so even in their temperament and showed great skill while we were taking their photos for this update! The puppies got their first lesson on "stay" and did a pretty good job! This will still need work, but for 6 week old puppies to be so still for their photos is quite amazing!
The puppies were dewormed today which is their final "at home" deworming, and their next one will be given while at the vet at 8 weeks of age. We have scheduled their vet appointment for August the 24th so that they will be able to get their appointment in before the weekend and be ready to go home with you on Sunday the 26th or a later arranged date.
Below is some reading material on our website that will help you get prepared for taking home your puppy, and we will have additional information in your Puppy Starter Kit.

We'll be posting another update when the puppies turn 8 weeks old, but we will also let you know how their vet appointment goes on August 24th. The appointment is in the afternoon and so the update will be posted in the evening!
4 week old update:
Daphne and Trenton's puppies are now 4 weeks old! They absolutely love being downstairs in our living room area and seeing all the new sights and sounds that are apart of our home! They are super well adjusted and nothing phases them so far! We're so pleased with how these puppies are developing!
We have been introducing even more desensitizing sounds to them, like but not limited to: Train whistles, construction zone noises (heavy equipment, jackhammers, etc), vehicle engine sounds, fireworks, even bigger thunderstorms, more of the vacuum, random radio music, and emergency sirens.
They are eating 3 meals per day that consist of canned food, softened mashed kibbles, and goats milk, plus mom in-between and throughout the night as well. The pups have been dewormed once already, and will be dewormed again today too.
The puppies have also experienced their first grooming session of being wiped down with puppy wipes and being brushed to get all ready for their photos today. Now that the puppies are eating food from a dish -- they usually end up "wearing" the food too so clean-up is necessary to say the least!
The potty training is going amazingly well so far! As mentioned in the bonus update we posted, the puppies have only been downstairs in the puppy pen with the training pad for 3 days now, and they are hitting the mark nearly every time! It has been such beautiful weather that we have plans to also get the puppies outside this week for some great outdoor exposure!
Hope you enjoy the photos! The puppies showed excellent co-operation skills for their photos, even when they took a bit longer today while we adjusted the lighting, as we found the backdrop washed out their colour a bit! This is also the very beginning stages of the puppies learning to sit and listen to direction!
3 and 3/4 week old bonus update:
Daphne and Trenton's puppies are proving to be very advanced puppies! They figured out how to climb out of the whelping box, and their forward social behaviour and activity warranted moving them downstairs to our living room to begin their potty training and extra social skills of seeing a completely new part of our home, and our other dogs. They have been downstairs for 2 days now, and there was a bit of "excited puppy talk" in the beginning, but they settled really fast and are completely comfortable with their surroundings already! Here are some of the puppies milestones:
- The GREEN and ORANGE boys are kind of the chubby Momma's boys! They were the first to discover that they could climb out of the whelping box, and FOOD was the motivator! Once they figured out that the "funny things on two legs" brought yummy food -- they were out of the box to greet us as soon as they heard us coming and could smell the food! Talk about advanced problem solving skills!
- The PURPLE girl was the first puppy to wag her tail, she did so a few days ago and she has started a huge trend because now all the puppies wag their tails! She is an influencer and a leader! Usually her siblings like to follow her lead!
- The BLUE boy was the first to play with toys! He is the sweet underdog of the group who isn't exactly the leader, but he sure isn't going to let his bigger brothers have all the fun OR THE FOOD! He just might love food more than his mom -- his aspirations are to be big and strong!
- The PINK girl joins in on the action, but she is an observer! She likes to be thoughtful and observe before getting in and "getting her paws dirty". She is the equalizer of the group!
All the puppies have discovered they have a voice, which is beyond adorable at this stage! To some, it may sound like a whimper, but really they are "talking" like a baby chattering away! It is a sign of intelligence as they are scoping out their new world!
We hope you enjoy the video! Stay tuned for our 4 week update on the 29th!
2 week old update:
Click on the photos to enlarge!
Daphne's puppies are now 2 weeks old and they are super strong! Their eyes have begun to open and they are currently at varying stages so some puppies look alert, some look like they are squinting, and others look like they are sleeping! This is one of the most content and curious litters of puppies we have had here at Pleasant Meadows. Most puppies need a few minutes to get used to a photo set, but not these pups -- they have no fear! They were all up and trying to walk around on wobbly legs (even the pups with their eyes still closed) and even sitting up! The strength and boldness of this litter is amazing for us to see! These puppies will all be very forward in their social skills and it is very evident now even at two weeks that perfect temperaments are starting to emerge!
Here are some of the puppies milestones this week -- we have lumped them into groups because they all are so advanced for their age:
- the GREEN BOY, ORANGE BOY, and the PURPLE GIRL were the first to push themselves into a sitting position (although all the puppies can sit and have been over the past 3 days)
- the BLUE BOY and the PINK GIRL were the first puppies to walk (although they were all walking over the past couple of days)
We will be starting the puppies on goats milk this week as soon as they have all opened their eyes. This is the very beginning stages of our weaning process that will be a gradual process over the next 4 weeks. At this stage we simply offer the puppies the opportunity to try the goats milk and to begin taking a bit of the strain off Emma to produce so much milk for her growing puppies! You can read more about the weaning process by clicking HERE.
This week's brightly coloured photo set is also the beginning of the puppies visual stimulation. The 2nd week of a puppies life is pivotal because they can SEE and HEAR for the first time. So, this week they will begin seeing lots of brightly coloured objects around them and we will also introduce toys once the puppies are more steady on their feet. Sound is another huge factor and the puppies will be exposed to the sound of our voices and things like rain falling, thunder, radio, the vacuum etc. We will be exposing the puppies to as many sights and sounds as we can think of over the next 6 weeks, now is just the beginning!
If you are not already doing so, please follow along on our Puppy Timeline: Birth to 8 Weeks for additional details of the socialization process week by week -- click HERE to see!
We also encourage you to start getting things prepared for bringing home a puppy! If you start collecting items over the next 6 weeks it will ensure that you are not left scrambling at 8 weeks! Please take a look at our Puppy Shopping list page to give you an idea of what types of items you should be buying in preparation for your puppy coming home:
Below are also some group photos of the puppies together -- enjoy!
1 week old bonus update:
The puppies are now 1 week old and are incredibly strong for their age! They can crawl around the whelping box with complete ease, and even have no trouble going up and over ripples in the fabric whelping pads that line their box for comfort! Daphne continues to be an excellent first-time-mom and does a good job at keeping her puppies clean! She has plenty of milk for them, although we are increasing her food intake this week because her puppies are hefty from all the muscle building they have done crawling around, so we want to ensure that both mom and pups are getting everything that they need! We hope you enjoy this bonus update!
Daphne gave birth to a beautiful litter of 5 puppies on July 2nd between 1:00 AM and 6:00 AM. Daphne is very attentive and an excellent first time mother! She gave birth to 2 girls and 3 boys -- all of the puppies are medium to dark ruby at this stage although some lightening may happen over time. The Purple collar girl has some white on her chest, and the Green collar boy has the tiniest spot of white on his forehead, but otherwise the puppies appear to be solid Ruby in colour. Other markings like white toes, or white on the nose/muzzle may not appear for another few days to a week's time. Daphne's puppies are very robust and strong -- they all came out plump and ready to nurse! We have given Daphne plenty of time to bond with her puppies since she is a first time mom and we thank you all for being patient while waiting for the birth announcement!
Daphne is the first of our girls to have her puppies in our new custom made whelping box made by Dundalk Plastics right here in Ontario! We're proud to be Canadian and support Canadian made products.
We look forward to sharing this gorgeous litter with you over the coming weeks. Our next scheduled update for the puppies will be when the puppies turn 2 weeks old on July 15th, 2018. We will e-mail those on the waiting list when the update has been posted to ensure that you don't miss it!
