Note from Pleasant Meadows: This mixture should create a litter with varied fur-type with a predominance towards the straighter Cavalier-like fur and appearance, but fur like the F1 Cavapoo may still be possible for a few puppies.

Nearly 8 week Puppy Update:

Gloria's and Arlo's puppies are 8 weeks old on Monday, May 3rd 2021.  We are posting the update a little early because the puppies will be going to the vet Monday morning and some of the litter will be going to their new homes later that afternoon, and the rest will leave on the 4th. We won't have time to post an update here on our website, but we will e-mail the families on this list before leaving our vet with the appointment news.  During our vet's above-average health examination each puppy will be checked for the following:

-  Eyes  (checked for abnormalities or discharge, and the vet will look at the internal eye with an ophthalmoscope)
-  Ears  (checked for redness/infection or the presence of mites, and the vet will look in the ear with an otoscope)
-  Mouth & throat  (checked for gum colour, swallow reflex, and teeth alignment)
-  Heart  (checked for irregular heartbeat patterns or murmurs)
-  Lungs  (checked for rhythmic breaths and clarity of lungs)
-  Stomach palpitation  (checked for any signs of bloating, discomfort, or the presence of a hernia)
-  Flexion of joints  (checked for fluid movement of joints in the hips, knees, and elbows)
-  Postural Reflexes  (the "paw flip test" checks for proper neurological function where the paw is flipped under so the pads face upwards towards the belly. This is done to see how quickly the puppy rights it's paw so that the pads are flat on the ground/surface again the way a dog would normally bear weight/stand)
-  Equilibrium  (checked balance by turning the puppy on it's back to make sure the puppy can roll upright again, and assessing the gait of a puppy)
-  Temperature  (checked for normal body temperature)
-  Weight  (checked for healthy weight and growth rate)

And once they are deemed healthy, the puppies will receive their 1st vaccination which will cover:

-Parvovirus
-Distemper
-Hepatitis (Also called Adenovirus OR CAV2-Hepatitis)
-Parainfluenza

And the puppies were also dewormed according to their weights with StrongidT.

We have put together a video of the puppies romping around with their Daddy, Arlo in our yard.  You will be able to see the puppies doing their "business" outside (all the pups did even if they weren't captured on video), and they were literally having a blast! Not sure who is the bigger puppy, Arlo or the puppies themselves as they all had so much fun!!

These puppies have been excellent for adapting to and accepting everything in their midst!  We have to say that they are the most adaptable litter we have ever had in our 11 years of raising the Cavapoo.  They took to food quickly with no fuss in the weaning process, they have potty pad trained themselves and readily go potty outside when romping in the grass.  Overall, they seem to enjoy new sights, sounds, and smells, and they didn't even blink an eye at spending a week in the camper when we had house showings and were "kicked out" of own home with so many people in and out (plus it was safer COVID-wise!).  And the puppies have also crate trained themselves -- any time that they are placed in a crate they play together or fall asleep.  We expected the pairing of Gloria and Arlo to be great, and this litter has far exceeded our expectations!

The puppies are eating 1/8 to 1/4 cup of food depending on puppy size.  Their food consists of kibbles that have been softened in hot water for 2-5 minutes which is just enough to take the "crunch" off and a spoonful of canned food is added and stirred around to coat the kibbles.

We have started the puppies on probiotics again over the past week (given for weaning and when it's time to go home), and there will be probiotics in your Puppy Starter Kit in a small baggy.  Please give ONE per day until finished (we typically give it with the morning meal) -- it can be fed whole as a treat or crumbled on top of the food.

Also, for this litter, we are giving you a full tube of Nutritional Gel because Gloria's puppies all weigh between 2 and 3 pounds and it makes the transition easier and greatly reduces the risk of low blood sugar when our puppy families are equipped with the "tools" they need!

A dime-sized portion given once daily until the container of the Nutritional Gel in your Puppy Starter Kit is finished will help give your puppy a boost while adjusting to a new home.  It’s fairly common for a puppy to go off his/her food from stress during the transition and this Nutritional Gel will fill in the “nutritional gap” that can cause hypoglycemia (low blood sugar and loss of electrolytes) if a puppy isn’t eating his/her full meals by providing high calories and essential vitamins from this supplement.  Please give a dime-sized amount once daily even if your puppy is eating full rations. All of our puppies should be eating approximately 1/4 of a cup of food per meal 3 times daily and if your puppy is eating less than that amount then we recommend giving a dime to nickle sized amount 3 times daily (morning, afternoon, and evening). A dime to nickle sized amount is an approximate and feeding a little more or a little less is okay!  This is not a meal substitute, but instead a boost if your puppy is not eating a full meal! If your puppy doesn’t readily lick the gel, you can rub it on the roof of their mouth or on their gums.

The puppies will also be weighed at the vet tomorrow, but we're including their current weights below as well, and you can see the amount that each puppy is eating based on their weight:

We have continued to expose the puppies to new sights and sounds, and the puppies were bathed this weekend in preparation for going home and this included nail trimming and clipping the fur on their muzzle in front of their eyes which is important to keep up in curly coated breeds to avoid excess tear staining and irritation of the eyes from long fur.   They are totally comfortable with all these procedures.

We're looking forward to the families meeting their darling puppies on Monday and Tuesday!  Below are a couple of group photos of the puppies which also show just how amazing these puppies are, as they sat perfectly still like angels for the photo session!

6 week old Puppy Update:

Gloria's puppies are now 6 weeks old and we have successfully matched all of them to the families on the waiting list.  This litter continues to be exceptional in terms of their adjustment to new and different routines.  They are doing excellent on their potty pad training and crate training!  We are doing things differently this time regarding crate training and are physically removing the puppies from their day time pen and placing them in a crate at night to sleep together in a new location and this is all taken in stride!  Here are some photos of the puppies having an afternoon nap in their crate for extra exposure:

We are taking the puppies outside regularly for outside potty exposure, fresh air, and new experiences!  The great outdoors must agree with Gloria's puppies as they not only have a blast but they have done an excellent job at "peeing and pooping up a storm" outside without any fear of being in a new environment!  As you can see from the video below -- the puppies LOVE being outside:

The puppies are only getting "comfort sips" from Gloria now and have weaned themselves onto food which is a mixture of softened kibbles, canned food, and a goat milk topper!

There have been a lot of new experiences for the puppies this past week with going outside, the introduction of the crate, and their first official bath finally happened!  Gloria always keeps her puppies so clean, but we wanted to give the puppies a bath so that we could ensure that they have a proper introduction to grooming.  Just as the puppies have done amazingly well with loud noises and different sights, they also did so well with the bathing process!  All of the puppies were relaxed during the bath and they didn't mind having water and shampoo being poured on them, scrubbed and rinsed, or being dried.

We dewormed the puppies again for their 6 week deworming and their weights are as follows:

2 pounds and 1/2 an ounce

Three of the puppies weigh exactly the same, and Ella and Koda have swapped places for the top weights in this litter as we get closer to 8 weeks.  Koda really loved nursing off of Gloria, but Ella REALLY loves her new food.

The puppies co-operational skills grow daily and we are so proud of them! Just look at these adorable angels sitting so nicely for their group photos this week!
