8 week old puppy update:

Lydia and Arlo's puppies turn 8 weeks old tomorrow, December 1st.  We had them to the vet on November 25th for a complete health examination, their 1st vaccine, and another deworming.  They were all deemed to be in excellent health and the vet commented on their happy and contented dispositions.

The puppies weights are as follows:

Dash -- 4 pounds & 1 ounce
Scout -- 3 pounds & 5 ounces
Kobi -- 4 pounds & 9 ounces
Griswold -- 4 pounds & 2 ounces
Trouble -- 3 pounds & 7 ounces
Pablo -- 3 pounds & 8 ounces
Zoey -- 4 pounds & 1 ounce
Charlee -- 3 pounds & 5 ounces

There was no motion sickness noted in Lydia and Arlo's puppies, so hopefully the puppies will be good for the drive to their new homes as well!

Each night the puppies have been sleeping through the night as a group in the crate from around 10pm to 7am, and have had individual create time during the day.  When they go to their new homes they will likely wake up in the night and you will need to take your puppy outside to go potty.  Being on their own is different than being together in a group or sleeping in a new place -- it's like going to a hotel and sleeping in a strange bed -- a puppy needs time to adjust to new surroundings and routines.

The puppies have been doing well on their potty pad training, but they do prefer to do their business outside in general.  It is our usual advice to use the potty pads as a back up ONLY (ie. when you can't watch your puppy), but Lydia's puppies have always been ones for loving the outdoors and we definitely recommend taking them outside every hour that they are awake to establish a solid routine that will set your puppy up for potty training success.  Since Lydia's puppies love the outdoors, it's best not to let them slide backwards and rely on the potty pads.

The puppies are eating 1/4 of a cup
of softened kibbles, and we are actually sending the puppies home with a roll of Freshpet (except for those flying in from out of province -- you will have canned food for your flight). We have had good success with sending the Freshpet home with one of our litters this past spring and we also sent a roll home with Aurora's puppies and that has worked out great instead of canned food.  Simply slice off a thin slice of the roll and crumble it onto their food -- mixing isn't even necessary!

Here is the roll that you will be sent home with:
https://freshpet.com/dog/freshpet-select/tender-chicken-vegetables-brown-rice-dog-food/

We have put the rolls in our freezer so that they will remain fresh on your drive home and we recommend cutting the roll in half once you are home and keeping one half in your fridge for use over the 5-6 days and the other half in your freezer to thaw out once the first half is finished.  Your puppy will only need a slice this wide |_| or less which would be 1/8 of an inch at maximum.

We like to get outside pictures when we can as it gives an opportunity for additional exposure with a level of distraction for the puppies when they have to sit and not be distracted by the world around them, but it was just a smidge too cold with our recent snowfall to expect all 8 puppies to sit still long enough to take their photos in the snow -- so we have done our best to bring some flurries into their photos!  All of the puppies are doing well on their "sit", and all that is left to do in their new homes is helping the puppies learn patience to "sit" without the expectation of a treat being instantly available.  They can sit so nicely for their photos, and are such wonderful puppies!

We will have Charlee boarding with us over December, and it will be great for Lydia to have one of her puppies remaining here for an extended period of time.  Lydia is an excellent mother, but she doesn't cope well with all of her puppies leaving at once, and she will often give families the cold shoulder when they come to take her babies away!  Even after the puppy choosings were over, it sparked Lydia to play more often with Celina (her daughter from Lydia X Arlo 2020) as a comfort/coping mechanism.  Griswold left for his new home a bit early, and Lydia has been devastated and counting her babies and crying, so please come with a positive attitude at pick up time -- good vibes will hopefully help our sweet Lydia!

Please don't forget about sending in your final balance tomorrow on December 1st!  We have been super busy sourcing out items for our Puppy Starter Kits as so many shipments (even for pet stores) have been delayed due to COVID (again!) and also with the landslides in BC as most items fly into Vancouver, so we truly appreciate everyone's patience for the updates!

We are truly excited for all the families receiving one of Lydia and Arlo's spectacular puppies!

6 week old puppy update:

Lydia and Arlo's puppies are now 6 weeks old!  They have been such a joyful bunch of puppies!  It has been a nice familiarity to have a litter from Lydia and Arlo again, and a little bit like deja vu for their sweet and playful nature.

We firstly want to thank the families for being patient for the update this evening, we had another visitation and a Skype for two out of the 3 puppies that were available in this litter.  And we hope you are just as happy as we are that #6 Boy is now Pablo and has a forever family (and the others have great families pending!).

The puppies have been adjusting to eating meals at a scheduled time in the morning, afternoon, and evening.  Being typical "Liddy babies" the puppies LOVE their food and we will be starting to feed them in individual bowls this week instead of their "communal" round platter bowl to prevent the puppies from stealing another puppy's portion.  Although this litter wouldn't pass up the opportunity to gobble up a larger amount -- their ideal amount to eat at this stage is a 1/4 cup of kibbles softened in water and a heaping teaspoon of canned food.

We have been introducing the puppies to spending time in a crate when we change/clean their pen area, and we incorporated a crate it into their pen area this evening. Some of the puppies instantly gravitated towards the crate to investigate the new space, and it will be accessible for them to go in and out freely over the course of the day for play and naps.  Here is their new pen space with the included crate:
