Why? Please view the videos below:
All of our studs and pregnant females get a "super beefed up meal" while they are producing or pregnant/nursing. They will have extra meat and egg for protein, and especially for our females, they will have cottage cheese (for calcium) in addition to the added meat and egg. It is very important to us to maintain our dogs so that they are in perfect health!
Proper nutrition is very important for breeding dogs as it is physically demanding on a female dog to give birth and care for a litter of puppies! Quite often a female dog will shed out around 40% to 60% of her fur while she is nursing, and she may also lose a fair bit of weight. Those are the outward demands that we can see, but essentially she gives her puppies everything she has in her body by way of nutrients, and even the calcium from her bones! This is why we rarely, unless under veterinarian advisement breed back-to-back heat cycles so that our females can have time to rejuvenate between litters, and we also feed extra foods that are rich in vitamins to help replenish the essentials that the mother needs to be strong and healthy for herself and her puppies.
It is likewise important for a growing puppy to have adequate nutrition and we have selected a puppy formula that allows for proper nutrition to be absorbed and for our puppies to maintain excellent health.
Our PUPPIES are eating 1stMoz or RAW when they go HOME!
1stMoz or RAW will be the FOOD that comes in your PUPPY KIT!
You can purchase 1stMoz through their website and it can be found at select stores throughout Canada.
(it can be shipped right to your door through 1stMoz)
a raw diet!
The brand of raw food will vary between Furball's Choice and Back2Raw or another comparable brand, and all can be purchased through their websites (area permitting) and found in select stores across Canada.
(you don't have to purchase the same brand of raw for your puppy -- transitions from raw to raw are flawless)
1stMoz is still technically a raw diet, but the meat has been cold pasteurized to remove bacteria and for sustainable shelf life. It is the perfect option for those who want to feed their dog a healthy species-appropriate diet but are maybe hesitant to go "full out raw". It is important to add a probiotic periodically to your puppy's diet when feeding 1stMoz, as the bacteria (both good and bad) are sterilized for shelf stability. Goats milk is also good for creating a balanced gut flora.
Whether you feed 1stMoz or an actual raw meat diet -- you still need to consider adding dog-safe fruits and vegetables, tri-minerals, calcium (if no bones are ground in the mix), offals, etc. if the brand of food does not include those things. Most brands of raw food will include organ meat, ground bone, and some vegetables, but pay attention to the ingredients and add accordingly!
You can read about the benefits of raw feeding on the info below:
If you decide to switch brands of dog food ALWAYS do so GRADUALLY over a
period of 12 days at the MINIMUM to avoid stomach upset and diarrhea in your puppy!
Dogs, and ESPECIALLY puppies, are very SENSITIVE to diet change! Following the chart and video below will help you avoid problems if you switch to a different brand of dog food!
