8 week old vet update:

Vera's puppies are 8 weeks old and the puppies had a big day at the vet today!  Our vet was very impressed with how well behaved the puppies were for their examination!  In fact, Vera was the only one who whimpered for her vaccination (tagged along for a shot update too!) and her puppies took it in stride!  All of the puppies were found to be in excellent health and they received their 1st vaccination and a dewormer -- and their weights were as follows:

Adley -- 4.8 pounds
Bex -- 5.2 pounds
Casper -- 5.6 pounds
Waldo -- 5.8 pounds
Rocky -- 6 pounds
Nova -- 4.4 pounds
Gavin -- 5.8 pounds
Piper -- 5 pounds
Lily -- 5.8 pounds

The puppies did great on to and from the vet and they slept most of the way
(1 hour each direction).

We are making it easy for the families receiving a puppy regarding the raw feeding and will have pre-portioned meals for their daily amount.  Each puppy is eating approximately 110 grams of food 3x's per day
(morning, afternoon, and evening).  If you are switching their food over to dry food, please start adding in a few kibbles (you may need to soften them in water) on day two in your home and slowly increase the amount over the course of 10 days and decrease the amount of raw food (which will extend it so you have enough to switch).  We do recommend remaining on a raw diet, or at the minimum feeding fresh dog-safe fruits and vegetables as toppers and treats. Below is an in depth and invaluable source of info on feeding a raw diet:  (click link box)

The puppies as a whole are exceptionally well rounded, and we are very proud of how this litter has matured.  They will be leaving for their new homes starting as soon as tomorrow on the 27th through to May 1st, and we hope that everyone will keep in touch so we can watch this litter grow!

Thank you to all the families receiving a puppy from this litter!

8 week old puppy partial update:

(the rest of the update will be posted tomorrow evening)

Vera's Brittanydoodle puppies will be 8 weeks old tomorrow on April 26th and they are ready for their next adventure!  The puppies have been a true joy to care for over the past 2 months and we will miss each of them, although we are thrilled to keep "Adley" as one of our future stars!

As you can see from their photo, the puppies have mastered the "sit" command and have a decent base on "stay" to achieve this incredible photo.  Our day was so full that the group photo of the puppies was all that we could accomplish amongst our other duties and responsibilities, and so we will get individual photos tomorrow after their vet appointment.

The puppies love spending time outside and doing their potty business just happens naturally as they romp about!  They are pretty content in the crate and we hardly hear a whimper from them during pen changes or at night, and so we hope this continues when they go to their new homes!

If you haven't e-mailed us with a pick up date/time -- please do so
ASAP so we can schedule you in and have your puppy ready to go!

We'll have more to post tomorrow ... have a great evening!

6 week old puppy update:

Vera's puppies are now 6 weeks old and over the past weekend, we were able to meet six families either in person or on Skype, and they all have chosen their puppies!  TWO puppies are still available -- Casper and Gavin -- so if you know of anyone looking for a Brittanydoodle puppy please let them know that we have puppies available!

We still had lots of snow a few days ago in our area, but with rain wind and now gorgeous temperatures the amounts of snow have dwindled considerably.  Our puppy photo set, as you can see, reflects a definite spring theme, and the puppies sure look adorable on a set of brilliant spring blossoms!  The puppies were totally co-operative for their photos, and as a whole, they are a very happy and content litter that loves to play with toys as well as interact with people!

The puppies are doing great on their potty training and use the potty pads without failing, and we will start to take them outside regularly now that our snow is receding!

We are also teaching the puppies to "sit" this week to give them a solid foundation of looking to humans for direction.

Not much phases these puppies and they tackle life with curiosity and enthusiasm!  We are so thrilled with everything that we see in them!

The puppies had more of the "usual" nail trimming, deworming, and fur trimming this week, and they all took it in stride.  While this kind of stuff is mundane to write about -- it is a big part of the puppies desensitization to things that the puppies will experience throughout their life!

All of the puppies are eating sufficient food 3 times daily
(morning, afternoon, and evening) and are now fully weaned from Vera for nursing.  Vera is still able to interact and play with her puppies to teach vital social cues -- our moms are never fully removed from their puppies.  The pups also get to experience interaction with some of our other dogs to simulate "meeting someone new".

We have booked the puppies vet appointment for:

Wednesday, April 26th, 2023

Please plan ahead with the veterinarian of your choice and book your puppy's NEXT appointment for 12 weeks of age
(4 weeks from April 26th).

We will post the puppies 8 week old update on April 25th
(a day EARLY!).

We are still calculating what amount of food each puppy is eating, but we will have that information by 8 weeks of age.  We will be sending home a cooler bag of raw food, a raw food guide and information
(enough food for 1 week).  If you need any help selecting a food, please ask us in advance of pick up!

The puppies will also be sent home with a NEW Puppy Starter Kit with never before included items!  Please see the below album to view what items and the number of items plus sizes:

And we will also be adding in the following:

- High Calorie paste (Equal to Nutrical Gel and Tomlyn High Calorie paste)
- Peepad (for the drive home)
- Dehydrated chew stick
- Harness (type will vary)
- Shampoo bar (Organic and WAY BETTER than liquid shampoo for application and lather)

So, please be advised that you will be receiving ALL of the shown items in your Puppy's Starter Kit! (Plus their vet booklet/record, food sample -- enough for 1 week, raw food guide & info, copy of the Purchase Agreement, Birth Certificate, and receipt, etc.)

To conclude their 6-week update we have a video of the puppies during their exposure to the outdoors:

4 week old puppy update!

Vera's puppies are now 4 weeks old and have reached the stage when they love to play and are enjoying their new surroundings in our sunroom where we moved them this morning!  The acclimation to an entirely new space was *completely smooth* -- the puppies didn't even skip a beat and were content in their new larger pen.

It has been a busy day for the puppies as they had their nails clipped, the fur around their eyes trimmed, as well as a bath prior to having their photos taken this afternoon.  We were pleased with how content they were with all of the procedures and they sat on the photo set like real pros!  Please note that we have included fur type predictions in the photo gallery above with the puppies 4-week photos.  This is our first litter from Micah and we are seeing every fur type coming out in this F1-mixture.  All puppies will be low shedding on various levels and we will help match you to a suitable puppy based on preferences and/or allergies.

Vera and her pups can stretch out and move about with additional space, and their new pen includes a potty pad and so the puppies have also had their first introduction to potty training.  Here are photos of the puppies relaxing with Vera and having a nap shortly after their bath:

Today was also deworming day and we weighed the puppies for dosage accuracy -- you can see their weights listed below:

As you have probably noted, we have decided to also keep a female puppy from Vera's litter, which was not our original plan but after further thought of our future plans we don't feel that an opportunity like this will come along again -- and so we will be keeping the female puppy "Adley".

A few days ago, the puppies had their first meal of straight raw food (without added goats milk) and they absolutely love it and cannot gobble it down fast enough.  We love seeing puppies that have good food drive as it is not only an assurance that they will do well going home, but it helps make training a breeze when they love food!  The puppies still have full access to Vera for nursing, this is in addition to her feedings.

With puppy-choosing around the corner (starting April 8th), we are loving what we are seeing in the puppies overall demeanors and temperaments that are emerging.  So far the puppies are co-operative, easy going, playful, highly intelligent, and showing lots of curiosity towards their environment.  Here is a video of the puppies shortly after being moved to our sunroom where we will continue their socialization and desensitization to many sights and sounds -- you can see how relaxed and natural they are in their play and completely un-phased by a huge transition from the whelping box to an entirely new area of our home:

The sunroom is where you will meet and view the puppies at 5 weeks of age for puppy-choosing!

This litter is exactly what we anticipated seeing in our Brittanydoodles for their temperament and we couldn't be happier with them!

We will end with some additional photos:

2 week old puppy update!

Vera's puppies are now 2 weeks old!  They are happy, healthy, and growing nicely!  Their eyes are just starting to open -- right on schedule for 2 weeks, and they will be fully open within a few days.  Puppy #3 Boy "Casper" has a head start over his siblings with eyes almost fully open which will give him a slight advantage of seeing the world and gaining extra co-ordination and confidence.  A few days makes a HUGE difference in puppies when they are growing and changing daily.

Vera is an excellent mother and keeps her puppies well fed and clean.  She cares for them with a comical confidence -- often grabbing her food dish when she wants more food, or pawing at her puppies to move them closer to her to nurse.  Vera is one of those dogs that will always make you laugh, and her puppies often receive her fun quirky side.

The puppies have quadrupled in size which is normal for puppies of this age bracket, but Vera has outdone herself by plumping up her puppies to a "normal" size when they started off so incredibly small!  We are seeing the puppies beginning to walk, even when most eyes are barely starting to open which shows their strength and determination.

Along with their eyes opening, the puppies ears will open as well and we can begin to introduce the puppies to various sounds that they may encounter throughout their lives
(like fireworks recordings as one example), and we will be exposing them to many different sights too!

We will also be starting the puppies on goats milk this week and progress to a goats milk and raw meat slurry by 3 weeks of age when puppies, if they were wild wolves, would naturally be starting to eat fresh meat.  The pups will still have full access to nurse from Vera, as we never remove the mom, only provide supplemental feeding in a gradual process that prevents the mom from being depleted and allows the puppies to graduate to new food slowly and naturally over several weeks.  Our puppies are not weaned completely from their mother until 5 weeks with only comfort slurps from their mom until 6 weeks, and mom stays with her puppies to teach vital socialization play and communication cues right up to 8 weeks of age.  This allows us to focus the final 2 weeks on getting the puppies on a feeding schedule and ready for going home.

The puppies were calm and co-operative for nail trimming before their photos, and the puppies were also dewormed today which also went well!  Their weights are shown below with an additional photo of each puppy's face and their identification names that will be used to ID the puppies until you choose a puppy at 5-6 weeks of age and you can change their name if you like.

Vera's puppies will be turning 5 weeks old on April 5th, and we will start e-mailing families on the list shortly in the order in which your name is on the list to schedule you for a visit or Skype video call (your choice) to choose a puppy (we will help match you!). With 9 puppies, the puppy-choosing time-frame will likely extend into 6 weeks of age.  We ask that you please be prepared to clear your schedules and for your patience as we co-ordinate multiple families visiting or Skyping with us in a short period of time.

In preparation of receiving a puppy, please don't miss the Taking Home Puppy Online Instructional link that will be in the e-mail sent to the families on Vera's list for this 2 week update!

Here are a few candid photos of Vera with her puppies to end their 2 week update:

Birth Announcement:

Vera surprised us by giving birth to NINE puppies on March 1st when she only looked like she had around 4-6 at the most inside.  The puppies were so SMALL at birth that each puppy could fit in our palms and we also had 2 puppies that came out together at the same time (side-by-side), which if they had been normal size, would have been impossible!  We have never had an entire litter be so small before, but we are not unfamiliar with small puppies and we have taken this past week to monitor the puppies and ensure that each puppy is growing sufficiently and that all of them are healthy.  The puppies were *not* premature in any way, just very small puppies!

We are happy to report that with Vera's ample milk supply and extra care to ensure the smallest of the puppies nurse first -- all of the puppies are now within normal birth size -- albeit a week later!  And the puppies, even though they are smaller than anticipated, have been strong and vigorous since birth -- we simply erred on the side of caution to be certain that they were doing well and growing as they should before announcing the litter!

Thankfully Vera had a very easy and uncomplicated birth since the puppies were so small.  We are thrilled with how well Vera has handled caring for 9 puppies
(her first litter was only 3!), and the puppies are very content and happy as she nurtures their every need.

We are amazed that all of the litter ended up with Vera's colouration, but it's nice to see that Micah's size has come through!

All of the puppies have some amount of Red colouration -- as minimal as 1 ear to various dots and multiple patches.  There will be a puppy for everyone's likes and dislikes in this litter!  In the photos where the puppies are lined up in a row in front of Vera -- they are shown from left to right in order of their birth.

The puppies were born between 7:17 PM and 11:47 PM.

We have a little video of the puppies for you to also see while they nurse from Vera:

The next scheduled puppy update will be on March 15th, 2023 when the puppies are 2 weeks old!

Please share around that we have Brittanydoodle puppies available!
