4 week old puppy update:
Four Weeks of Wonder: The Living Room Takeover!
The pups have officially reached the one-month milestone, and we are absolutely bursting with pride at how these seven little souls are developing. This week marked a massive transition as we moved the entire crew into the heart of our home: the living room! It is a beautiful, chaotic, and joyful shift that marks the beginning of their true integration into human life.
New Space, Same Brave Spirits: We have a fantastic video showing the puppies within moments of being moved to their new pen space, and it is truly a sight to behold. It is possible to see instantly how comfortable and confident they are! There was zero hesitation—no "huddled in a corner" moments or cautious sniffing. Instead, it was pure curiosity and wagging tails from the second their paws hit the new floor. We are so impressed with their resilience; a move like this can be daunting for tiny pups, but they handled it like absolute pros.
It is clear they have inherited the very best of both parents. We are seeing Fearne’s incredibly sweet, happy temperament shining through in their social interactions—they just want to love and be loved. This is beautifully balanced by Arlo’s stable mind; they aren't easily rattled, and they've already displayed those hilariously goofy mannerisms that Arlo is known for. Watching them navigate their new world with such a grounded yet playful attitude is a testament to the strength of their breeding.
The "Wobble-to-Walk" Evolution: Physically, we are witnessing a massive leap in coordination and motor skills. Just a week ago, they were primarily scooting or taking a few shaky steps before tumbling over. Now, they are gaining "four-wheel drive." You can see them actually navigating—choosing a destination across the pen and making it there with purpose. Their tails, which used to just be little stubs, are now expressive communication tools, wagging furiously when they see a human face or a sibling approaching for a wrestle. Their muscular development is keeping pace with their curiosity, allowing them to climb over small obstacles and explore every inch of their environment with growing stability.
Cognitive Awakening & Bite Inhibition: This is the week where "play" becomes purposeful and complex. They aren't just bumping into each other anymore; they are practicing their first play-bows and starting to carry toys around with pride. Most importantly, they are beginning the critical lesson of bite inhibition.
With those tiny, sharp teeth erupting, they are learning "mouth manners" through their siblings. This social feedback loop is vital for their psychological growth—when one pup yelps because a sibling nipped too hard, the game stops, and they learn that a soft mouth keeps the fun going. It is the very foundation of the stable minds we strive for, and seeing them navigate these social nuances at just four weeks is incredible.
The Great Indoors: Desensitization & Socializing: Moving into the living room isn't just about a change of scenery; it’s a goldmine for "real world" education. The puppies are now immersed in the daily symphony of a busy household, giving them a head start on desensitization to the sounds and sights they will encounter for the rest of their lives.
-
Household Sounds: They are already hearing the hum of the vacuum, the clatter of the dishwasher, the front door opening and closing, and the constant chatter of the television and general family life.
-
Canine Socializing: This location allows for safe, supervised social exposure to our other dogs. This is a critical window for them to learn the "language" of being a canine from stable adult role models.
-
Human Interaction: Being in the center of the home means they get constant "drive-by" snuggles and observation, ensuring they are thoroughly socialized to human presence.
Fearne’s Gentle Guidance & The "Safe Anchor" Effect: It’s also beautiful to watch Fearne’s role shift. She is moving from being a 24/7 milk station to being a teacher and a mentor. Her calm presence in the living room environment serves as a "safety anchor" for the litter. Because she remains relaxed and unbothered by the household hustle, the puppies look to her for cues. When they hear a new sound, like the dishwasher or a door slamming, they check her reaction; seeing her stay calm allows their nervous systems to regulate almost instantly. She is showing them exactly how to be a confident dog in a human world.
Potty Training 101 & Working with Natural Instincts: We have set up a specialized "small start" pen to lean into their natural biological instincts. At this age, puppies naturally want to move away from where they eat, sleep, and play to do their business. By keeping the pen small in the beginning, we make that "gap" between their bed and the bathroom very easy to navigate. It sets them up for success rather than frustration.
-
The Green Zone: Half of their pen is the designated "potty side," lined with a green washable potty pad.
-
Early Success: We are so impressed to see that they are already starting to pee on the potty pad side! They are already making the connection that "green equals bathroom," which is a huge win for four-week-olds.
-
The Plan: This is the very start of their potty training until they are old enough and vaccinated enough to start going outside. As they continue to catch on and their coordination improves, we will expand their pen space over the next few days to a week.
Developmental Milestones & New Discoveries: At four weeks old, the "splendor of the age" is in full swing. Their eyes are bright and focused, their hearing is sharp, and they are officially finding their "big dog" voices with the most adorable little barks and growls during play.
Every day brings a new discovery. The crinkle of a plastic bag, the feeling of a different floor texture, or the first time they see their reflection in a water bowl—it’s all magic. We are making sure to rotate a few safe "discovery objects" in their pen—things like different textured balls or soft crinkle toys—to keep those little brains firing and building new neural pathways.
With those tiny, sharp teeth finally erupting, we are starting a big transition this week: The Introduction to Meat! While Fearne is doing a heroic job and being an incredible mother, she is currently nursing seven very hungry, growing babies. Even though she is being heavily supplemented with the best nutrition possible, the sheer demand of seven pups means she needs our help. Based on their size alone, we will be stepping in to help her feed her 7 hungry babes as they continue to grow. Introducing high-quality meat will give the puppies the extra protein and nutrients they need to thrive while giving Fearne a much-needed hand with the "heavy lifting."
These puppies are truly exceptional. Watching their individual personalities bloom in the middle of our living room is the highlight of our day, and we feel so lucky to be part of their journey. We can't wait to see what week five brings as they become even more mobile and adventurous!

2-Week Puppy Update: A Whole New World
A Legacy of Good Manners: We are also entirely impressed with how well the puppies settled on the photo set. We captured their photos with complete ease as they settled within moments. This is something we always look forward to with Arlo's puppies; he has the bloodlines of our foundation lines from 17 years ago coursing through his veins. His puppies have always been cooperative and well-mannered, a trait that has translated to the daughters we’ve kept from him and their subsequent litters. Combined with sweet Fearne, whose temperament is a lovely match for Arlo, these puppies as a whole are very content.

The Foundation of Temperament: It’s important to remember that who these puppies become starts with their very first breath. From that first nursing experience to every touch they receive now, these early interactions are shaping their neurological development. Their temperaments haven't fully emerged yet; at two weeks old, they are beautiful blank canvases being written on daily by the lessons they receive through taste, touch, and smell (and soon, sight and hearing). We are watching as their personalities grow, much like building blocks being stacked as we observe how they respond to each new experience in their lives.
The Opening of Senses: This is one of the most transformative weeks in a puppy's life. At the time of this update, the puppies' eyes are just peeking at the corners and still appear to be closed, but they will be open in a few days' time. It is common for some litters to have eyes fully open by 14 days, while others are just starting the process; both are completely normal and random to nature's discretion. Soon, the "lights will turn on," and they will start to process shadows, movement, and the muffled sounds of our home.
Cooperative Milestones (Nail Trims): We trimmed the puppies' nails today, which must be done regularly for their own safety to avoid snags on their bedding and to protect the mother’s sensitive belly while they nurse. We were very impressed with the calm and relaxed nature of the puppies, who complied without any fuss while we handled their paws.
Neurological Development: As their senses "wake up," their brains work overtime to make sense of new signals. Puppies often stare intently at moving shadows or react to new sounds for the first time. This is the beginning of their cognitive journey, where they start to recognize their mother and their littermates as distinct individuals rather than just sources of warmth.
Finding Their Feet: There is a major shift in mobility at this stage. Puppies often move away from the "army crawl" and start to push their tiny bodies up off the ground. While they are still very wobbly as they find their balance, this strength-building is the precursor to the walking and pouncing we will see in the coming weeks.
The Scent of Home: While their eyes and ears are just waking up, a puppy’s sense of smell is already highly developed. At this stage, they are beginning to associate the specific scents of our home and our hands with safety and comfort.
Dreaming and Twitching: We often see puppies twitching or making tiny muffled noises in their sleep. This "activated sleep" is a vital part of development, as these involuntary movements help the nervous system build the pathways for running and jumping later on.
Social Bonding through Touch: Through constant contact in puppy piles, they are learning the boundaries of their siblings' bodies, which is the very beginning of "bite inhibition" and social awareness.
Temperature Regulation: They are now starting to gain a small amount of internal control over their body temperature, though they still prefer the comfort and warmth of the huddle.
Growth and Vitality: Everyone is thriving and gaining weight at a healthy pace. Their coats are thick and soft, and their little bellies are nice and round.
What to Look For Next: Over the next seven days, their vision will sharpen, and they will begin to interact with one another on purpose. Puppies often make their first clumsy attempts at "play"—a tiny growl or a paw swatted at a sibling’s ear.
Identification Name: We have given each puppy a name for a quick reference -- these are not names that they come to know, but you are free to keep a name or change the name of your chosen puppy. As we gear up for puppy-choosing at 5-6 weeks of age we encourage you to think about names so that it can appear on your puppy's birth certificate and to follow the excitement of adding a puppy to your home.
Below are individual photos of the puppies with their ID names and their 2-week weights:

The Puppies' First Invitation: While the puppies are currently spending their days in a peaceful cycle of napping and growing, they are officially preparing for their very first social calendar! In just a few short weeks, we will be welcoming the families on our list into our home for in-person visits. The puppies might not be on their feet just yet, but they are already working hard on their "cuddle-ready" skills and they promise to be on their best behavior when you arrive (which means they’ll try their hardest not to nibble on your fingers—at least not too much!). Their little hearts are growing every day, and they are so looking forward to meeting the families who might just become their forever Valentines.
Will You Be Their Valentine?
We kindly ask for your patience while we send out the invite to your e-mails (on behalf of the puppies) ~ we look forward to connecting with you all soon to schedule your visits for puppy-choosing!
We include a little video for you to enjoy with this update:

Official Birth Announcement:
A Special Note of Thanks
We would like to sincerely thank all of our families for your patience while waiting for this in-depth announcement. It was vital for us to wait a few days before taking additional photos to ensure we didn't cause any unnecessary stress for Fearne. This quiet time allowed her milk to come in fully, and we are happy to report that it has! Fearne’s puppies are nursing strongly and are doing exceptionally well.

Early Development & Remarkable Strength
At 4 days old, these little ones are already showing us their strength. While puppies are born blind and deaf, relying entirely on scent to find their mother, Fearne’s litter is incredibly robust. They are already able to propel themselves in an "army crawl" around the whelping box to find her if they become temporarily separated. It is wonderful to watch their instincts and physical strength develop so early on.
A Look at the Group
In the photos where the puppies are facing the camera in a row, we have arranged them in the same order as the initial photos we sent out to let everyone know all is well. To help you identify them, the two girls are on the extreme outside on each end. We were extremely impressed with how easily the puppies lined up for these shots; they settled comfortably into their positions with very little effort from us.
Fearne’s Motherly Instincts
Fearne is proving to be a wonderful first-time mom. She has maintained her trademark sweet, wiggly nature when interacting with us, yet she instinctively becomes calm and treads gently whenever she is around her puppies. She is doing a very good job of laying still to let them nurse, which is evident in several of the photos included in this update and in the video (below).
Introducing the Litter
Below, you will find photos of each puppy along with their birth order and gender. By the two-week update, we will provide ID names for each of them so you can get to know them as individuals rather than just by a number. We ask everyone who is planning to place a deposit not to fall in love with or disregard a specific puppy based on these early photos, as their appearance will change drastically by 5-6 weeks of age. While we do our best to keep everyone’s preferences in mind, our ultimate goal is matching the right temperament and energy level to your specific home and lifestyle. We are so excited to show off Fearne and Arlo's beautiful puppies:

Puppy #1 ~ Girl

Puppy #2 ~ Boy

Puppy #3 ~ Boy

Puppy #4 ~ Boy

Puppy #5 ~ Boy

Puppy #6 ~ Boy

Puppy #7 ~ Girl

Thriving Under Gentle Care
Fearne and Arlo's puppies are thriving, and while we assisted by rotating them early on to ensure everyone received an equal share of colostrum, the credit for their growth goes to Fearne. She is doing a magnificent job as a first-time mom. All details for sending in a deposit, along with the overall litter timeline of important dates and info, are included here in this official Birth Announcement email.
To conclude this update, we have included a short video of the puppies below:

Welcome to the world!
Welcome to the World, Fearne’s Puppies!
We are so happy to announce that Fearne’s puppies arrived safely on January 23rd! The delivery went smoothly, with seven beautiful babies born between 2:43 PM and 8:16 PM. We have a full house with 5 handsome boys and 2 lovely girls.
Both Fearne and her puppies are doing well, but we are going to give her another day or two to fully settle into motherhood. We snapped these photos quickly so you could see that all is well, but Fearne needs some peace and quiet with her babies right now. Minimizing stress and limiting the handling of the puppies is essential to help her milk come in fully.
The puppies are remarkably strong, nursing well, and truly thriving. It is very common for a first-time mom’s milk to be a bit slower to drop, so we have spent the past day and a half rotating the puppies while nursing to ensure every single one gets an equal amount of that vital colostrum. Fearne is also receiving a specialized herbal blend to support her milk production. All of this is perfectly normal for a new mother, and it is all part of our job to ensure both mom and pups are supported and thriving.
In these early group photos, the individual white or red markings aren't easily visible yet, so we ask for your patience as we wait a bit longer for more detailed shots. For those curious about the genders in the photos, the two girls are positioned on the extreme outside left and the extreme outside right.

We will allow for deposits to be sent in soon by those on the list and/or those interested for the remaining spaces. In the meantime, please feel free to reach out if you have any questions or to show your interest in Fearne and Arlo's puppies!.
Thank you for your understanding and for sharing in our excitement!
