BORN: August 31st, 2025

These parents will produce *CAVAPOOS* that will be approx. 56.25% Cavalier / 12.50% English Cocker / 31.25% Poodle based on parents.  Puppies from these parents will genetically be a combined mix between the English Cocker Spaniel, Cavalier King Charles Spaniel and the Poodle for better health diversity because of the small amount of English Cocker Spaniel in Myiah's background.  Please see our CAVAPOOS 101 page for details and refer to the F1 Cavapoo which would be the closest comparable mixture:

This will be Myiah's and Arlo's first litter together!

Although, we have done this same type of mixture with Arlo and a Springalier female!

(A Springalier is similar to the Cockalier)

We anticipate that Myiah and Arlo's puppies will mature to be in the estimated range of 16 to 25 lbs.

ALL PUPPIES WILL BE "ABSTRACT" (MOSTLY SOLID WITH WHITE ACCENTS) *OR* "PARTI" (WHITE WITH PATCHES)

And the following colours are possible:

Ruby (medium or dark / Parti or Abstract) ~ Tri-Colour (white w/ black OR brown patches & tan points / Parti) ~ Phantom (black OR brown & tan points / Abtract - small amount of white / like Myiah) ~ Sable (black OR brown based / Parti or Abstract ) ~ Black (Parti or Abstract) ~ Chocolate (Parti or Abstract)

Please visit our Cavapoo Colours page for more colour details.

4 week old puppy update:

Myiah's puppies are now 4 weeks old and they have have had a full week!  We have moved them into our living room so that we can better monitor their next stage in supplementation of their diet without having to carry food bowls upstairs, and instead simply walk into our kitchen on the same level.  This is a huge change for the puppies which they have taken in stride!  Below is a video of the puppies getting used to their new pen space with squeaks of curiosity, and Myiah also nursed them for a while to help them adjust with some "comfort food":

The puppies are not yet ready to be fully weaned from nursing, but like we did with the formula milk, they are in need of meat as the next step because as you will notice in the video there are always 2 puppies scrambling for a drink and that's because Myiah (and most dogs) only have eight functioning nipples. So, the supplementation that we have done so far has kept all the puppies growing at a steady pace and ensured that they all get enough to drink and now to eat with the option of meat which will greatly help with their protein intake!

In the pen space, we have also introduced a washable potty pad (the green side of the pen) for the puppies to begin their potty training.  At this stage the pen will be kept small until the puppies learn to walk over to the green side to go to the bathroom, and once they catch on to this skill we will give them a larger space.  But for now it is easier if they don't have far to walk!

We bathed the puppies today so that we could start to assess their fur type in preparation of the 5-week choosing, and also for the added experience of getting another bath.  We are pleased to tell you that the puppies did exceptionally well once again with the water, shampoo, and the blow dryer ~ the early experience of being bathed at 2 weeks of age really showed through now in their calm demeanor during the whole process.  We love everything that we can see in the puppies thus far!

We will discuss the fur types at the 5-6 week puppy choosing, but at least 5+ puppies look like they will have a fluffy/curly coat and there could be more and there could be less.  We will continue to assess up until the time of choosing as we are fairly certain that this litter is premature by a few days, and that can greatly affect how coat type appears when you consider that puppies are growing and changing daily.  They can literally grow ounces within hours!

We also wanted the puppies to experience the outdoors while we still had sunny and warm days, so we had them outside today on a little pillow set on our deck to keep them safe.  It's a bit early for their immune system to touch the grass and other outdoor surfaces, but it's perfectly safe for them to smell the fresh air, feel the sun's warmth, see the world around them, and hear the birds, feel the breeze, etc.

The puppies were also dewormed today and had their nails trimmed in addition to their bathing experience!

It was very relaxing for the puppies in the fresh air and beautiful sunshine today and we also snapped group photos of them taking a little nap on the pillow set.  They are photographed by gender with the 6 boys in the first two photos:

And here photos of the 4 girls:

As you can see, both the boys and the girls thoroughly enjoyed the outdoors and were comfortable enough to nap which made the photo relatively easy!

We look forward to sharing the puppies with you all soon starting October 4th!

Thank you for tuning in for their 4-week update!

2 week old puppy update:

Myiah's puppies are now 2 weeks old and they are thriving and growing steadily on mom's ample supply of milk!  Their eyes are only just barely starting to open, in the corners.  Sometimes puppies will have their eyes fully open by 14 days, but we don't know when Myiah's puppies "should have been" born in terms of Myiah had a blood sugar level drop which could have triggered labor to happen earlier by a few days, and the c-section arose out of necessity for both mom and puppies safety.  It looks like their eyes will be opening in a couple days, so this theory of a few days early makes sense!

Around the time that their eyes open, their ears also open so the sensory explosion that takes place must be pretty spectacular!  The only senses that the puppies have known thus far are touch, taste, and smell, and it is always incredible to watch the puppies intellect and curiosity develop as they gain sight and hearing!

At this time puppies do a lot of sleeping, and they literally grow while they sleep! With their eyes and ears open, we will continue to rotate various toys to inspire their curiosity and to create opportunities for play.  We will also begin introducing different sound recordings like thunderstorms, train whistles, traffic noises, power tools, etc. as a part of their desensitization to sounds they may encounter in the big world.

This week we are giving the link to the Taking Home Puppy Online Instructional to help prepare you for adding a puppy to your home and providing care and training tips for the 1st year of your puppy's life. For those on Myiah and Arlo's list -- you will receive two emails, one for this update and one with a link and page password for the Instructional and other helpful information and resources!

We ask that all families on the list take advantage of the information on the Instructional and additional resources, as it is there for your own benefit and it has proven to be a huge help to families who take the time to read it and explore the resources on the page.

We weighed the puppies for their 1st deworming in the series of dewormings that they will receive before leaving Pleasant Meadows, and you can see their weights below.  The larger the litter is, the smaller the puppies are at their starting birth weight, and a lot changes within the first two weeks -- this is where we start seeing who will be bigger puppies and which will be smaller.  By 2 weeks, we can start measuring their growth based on how we have seen them grow thus far, and we will build upon that for our predictions of adult size that will be given at 5-6 weeks of age.  And a lot can happen within the first 2 weeks and this is the time when we often see the most change in the puppies -- if you remember back, we were upping our supplemental feeding to help the first puppy born (prior to the c-section) build up his weight, and we're pleased to report that he is now at a good and normal weight for his size.  And surprisingly the Black girl, who was on par with her siblings, is now the smallest puppy in the litter, not because she isn't a good weight for her size, but she is definitely going to be the smallest.  Every once in a while, Arlo will throw some small puppies -- he has produced puppies that are around 12 pounds as fully grown adults when the rest of the litter is 18-20 pounds.  Be prepared for the little black girl to be the fire-cracker of the litter -- they are always adorably feisty when they are little because they have to "fight" for everything!

We have given each puppy a personal identification name to be able to quickly ID the puppies -- the puppies will not know these names and you will be able to choose your own name.

Yesterday we actually decided to do something that we rarely do at 2 weeks of age, which was to give Myiah's puppies a bath.  Very understandably -- 10 puppies is a lot for any momma to keep clean, and this is Myiah's first litter, and while she is an excellent mom, we helped her keep her puppies sparkling!  So the puppies experienced a grooming session by way of a bath (being held gently in our bathroom sink), towel drying, and also the blow dryer to ensure that they were completely dry, warm, and temperature regulated.  Experiences like this, while rarely done, will greatly benefit the puppies later on as we start routines like this to establish a solid base for grooming in the future -- your puppy will need to be groomed in various ways in the future and experiencing it now as a puppy will make it mundane and normal.

Myiah has now completely recovered from the ordeal, and you will be able to see in the little video that we have below of the puppies nursing that she is so completely relaxed and settled into "mommy-mode" that she doesn't even move during the video.  A good mother will lay still while her puppies nurse to ensure that they can get the nutrition that they need.

We are very proud of Myiah and her calm disposition truly shows through in her puppies.  It is also not easy to get photos of 2-week old puppies from both sides and showing their sweet faces -- but this was relatively "easy" to do.  While this amount of time may shock those who have never photographed puppies before -- we were able to get all their photos done within about 3 hours time (approx. 18 minutes per puppy), which is extremely good.  Obviously, there are breaks between for the puppies, etc., but as a comparison it can take double that time for some litters half this size.  We're mentioning this because temperament doesn't just start "later in life", it is present right from birth -- how a puppy jostles for a position to nurse, how they respond to their grooming experiences, how co-operative they are for photos all give us indicators of their overall temperament and we're watching it all from birth through to when you finally get to choose a puppy.  And we can confidently say that we are loving what are are seeing in Myiah and Arlo's puppies -- they easily settle at this young age and are not fussy at all.  These are all good indicators of a great disposition!

We will begin e-mailing families on Myiah's list soon to schedule puppy viewings either in-person or via Signal Private Messenger video call for the 5-week mark! You will be able to decide if you want to visit in-person or see the puppies via video call.

Our next scheduled puppy update will be when the puppies turn 4 weeks old on:

Birth Announcement:

Hello Everyone!

We were able to get some photos and a video of Myiah and her puppies, but it is not the typical Birth Announcement format that we are used to providing. Myiah and her puppies are all doing well, but Myiah has been through quite the ordeal!  She had a lot of people (vets, vet techs) handling her puppies, plus the whole confusion of a c-section understandably makes her a little anxious when her babies are handled too much or are too far away! She doesn't need any added stress, and we just want her to focus on her recovery and caring for her puppies.

We tried to get a few photos of the puppies, and they are not our usual photos where we would line up the puppies allowing you to see more of their markings and faces, but Myiah started to pant and wanted to over-stimulate her puppies through licking which is a sign that a mom is feeling a bit uncomfortable.  She is an excellent mother and she has every right to feel as she does, so we will just move at her pace and provide updates with more substance when Myiah has recovered and can settle into motherhood more naturally.

Below are photos that we were able to capture quickly without too much disruption to Myiah and the puppies quiet time -- in some of the photos we did separate the 4 girls on the LEFT and the 6 boys on the RIGHT:

Myiah is proving to be an excellent first time mother, she has a beautiful natural instinct to keep her puppies close, safe, nourished, and warm.  While this seems like it would be a natural thing, it is not always strong with all mothers.

We are upping the supplementation feeding of the puppies, one of the male puppies in particular -- he is the first born prior to Myiah's c-section and is a bit on the smaller side.  He is the only puppy that we know the birth order for, and we want to make sure that he is able to keep up to his siblings within reason.  There is typically always a puppy or two within a litter that is smaller, and as long as they are thriving, they are considered to be "simply small" and not a runt, so that is our goal to keep him thriving!

Myiah has also gone through changes with her feeding -- with her litter of 10 puppies she is eating a whopping 1200 grams of food per day (400 per meal) now that she has room for all that food inside (plus keeping her food down) and she is feeding so many puppies.  A dog of her size, without puppies would typically only need 250 grams per day, so that gives you an idea of the strain that puppies can have on the body and how we as responsible breeders have to help Myiah compensate with the proper amount of food.

We will likely be weaning the puppies from nursing from Myiah sooner than we would for a smaller litter, because it would be hard for any mother to keep up to the demand of 10 puppies.  How we operate as breeders during the weaning process is often different than other breeders where they will remove the mother entirely which can ruin a puppy socially and emotionally.  Puppies need to learn vital social skills and cues from their mother on how to play and interact with other dogs, and we allow this process to happen.  We would hope to have Myiah's puppies weaned from nursing by 4 to 5 weeks of age and we would still allow Myiah to interact with her puppies while she is wearing a "onesie" that covers her "milk bar" area.  Myiah will be available to teach the puppies all the necessary skills to "be a dog" and have the freedom to do so without being drained by her puppies.  We will introduce new food as gradually as possible so that it's stress-free for the puppies by simply giving them the opportunity to try new food and increasing the availability of that food.  We'll keep you posted on this progression over the coming weeks.

This update will have to suffice for now as Myiah and Arlo's official Birth Announcement photos as it was an unusual course of events that transpired and it typically is very straight-forward.

We also captured a little video of Myiah with her puppies as it was a little less intrusive when she was able to keep her babies nestled in close to nurse!  We hope that you can see the puppies a little better between the photos provided and the video:

If you haven't already sent in your deposit for this litter -- we will ask you to do no later than tomorrow night (Friday, September 5th) by 11:00 PM.

We will post more updates as Myiah continues to recover!

Below are pre-cursers to the official Birth Announcement of the puppies and are the updates sent to the families currently on Myiah and Arlo's list!

September 2nd, 2025:

Hello again Everyone!!

We are sending another update with some more photos that we hope you will all enjoy!  Myiah is continuing to improve in leaps and bounds!  She is eating her full meals, drinking a good portion of water, and keeping them both down -- and her energy and happy demeanor are nearly back to normal after only two doses of the proper and much needed medication.  She is very attentive and loving and is proving to be an excellent mother, especially with everything she has endured!

We are still in the midst of round the clock care, because we want to ensure that everything stays moving in a good direction, so we will take today to completely focus on Myiah and her puppies.  But we wanted you to be able to see that Myiah and her babies are doing well!

Here are the photos:

September 1st, 2025:

Hello Everyone!

We have some good news that Myiah is mom to 10 beautiful puppies -- 4 girls and 6 boys!  And before we start we want to assure everyone on the list that Myiah and her puppies are doing well now, but we have unfortunately experienced what it's like to have our experience of 16+ years ignored and devalued by a "fresh out of vet school" vet who has never experienced a real birth and or seen any of the signs that should be present when all is going smoothly or when a female needs help.  This is pretty common that breeders have more experience than vets because a vet reads a textbook (and birthing is rarely "textbook") or they only see a dog in an emergency situation (and not the lead up).

On Saturday, August 30th -- we noted that Myiah's blood sugar had dropped because she was acting lethargic, this is a sign that a girl may need help due to the number of puppies inside taking all her energy.  We rushed her to the only emergency vet able to take on Myiah's case to stabilize her blood sugar level -- because of the long weekend and all the emergencies that seem to happen on weekends -- 90% of emergency clinics were full and they were redirecting clients to clinics up to 4 hours away to spread out the rush.  We were very fortunate to be able to get into an emergency clinic and once your "foot is in the door" they will re-see your dog as many times as needed.

We were certain that Myiah was starting go into labor and if necessary we were prepared to have Myiah stay at the clinic to receive a helping hand to birth her puppies.  But, the vet who saw Myiah on August 30th, after a slew of tests thought that her blood sugar level was all that needed to be resolved (which may or may not have been accurate) and once Myiah was stable the vet sent us home to try and birth at home to free up space in the emergency clinic.  We also had an x-ray on this day and there were 12 puppies *clearly* visible with the possibility of 1 more which can be seen below with and without markers showing the 12 puppies:

By the next morning, we knew that we needed to go back to the emergency vet because Myiah had shown some signs of going into labor but she was not progressing as she should, and our experience of 16+ years told us instantly that she needed a c-section or at minimum she needed oxytocin to help her have strong contractions if she did indeed start to give birth.  We arrived at the emergency vet and originally they agreed that Myiah needed a c-section and they started to prep her for surgery when she was able to push out one puppy after they shaved her belly -- this can sometimes happen but it does not mean that a dog has the strength to birth a whole litter on her own.  Often when small-breed dogs have larger litters their uteruses can be "stretched to the max" and unable to contract properly without oxytocin or perhaps an eventual c-section.  The vet decided to pause the c-section and see if Myiah could birth on her own.  Please note that it is a new vet every 8 hours at this clinic, so we saw a different vet than the previous day and there was a shift change right at this point where we went from the vet who was going to perform the c-section to a young and inexperienced vet.

They set us up in a quiet room with Myiah and her singular puppy (or so we thought) to continue birthing if Myiah was able to do so.  We found out after being in the room for about an hour and a half, when we called them into the room to request oxytocin because Myiah was not showing signs of progressing (puppies should arrive approximately 1-ish hours apart or less, or at least show signs of contractions or pushing on a puppy over 1.5 to 2 hours), that there was actually a second puppy born naturally and because they were not monitoring her properly before they brought Myiah into the quiet room where we to assist her birthing naturally -- the second puppy had apparently passed while "under their watch" from actually not watching.  This infuriated us (inwardly), because we knew that this would not have happened under our watch, but they used that second puppy as an excuse not to give oxytocin and not to progress with the c-section because it hadn't been 2 hours since that last puppy (which we weren't told about initially).  And when we mentioned that she was getting lethargic again, they tried to tell us that birthing was a big deal and that she would be naturally tired and if she hadn't passed another puppy in an hour or so that they would send a tech in to check her calcium levels and we could discuss oxytocin.  We expressed that we would prefer to go ahead with the oxytocin, but we were dismissed by the young vet who proceeded to tell us that a dog could go up to 4 hours between puppies.  While this is true in some cases, it is *only* acceptable to see a dog go that long if she is resting or "pausing" after birthing several (3-5) puppies to rejuvenate her body -- a female dog can pause for a bit, but she still shows active signs of labor -- this was not the case for Myiah.  We explained that to the vet about a pause, but this was not a pause -- it was a stalled labor because there were no signs of progression and Myiah was in a lethargic state -- and in our 16+ years we were seeing signs that pointed to Myiah needing help and that there should be signs of another puppy by then.  This made the young vet a little angry and she said "I know about birthing, I'm a doctor" and proceeded to leave the room.  We were stuck waiting and begging for oxytocin or a c-section, after calling around again, to confirm that other emergency clinics were still full.  We passed the 4 hour mark, and they refused in that time to check the calcium even though they said they would in order to give oxytocin and we ended up going to the front desk and demanding another vet because of the young vet's attitude and refusal to listen to us, and we were concerned for Myiah's health and the health of her unborn puppies who were by then showing signs of distress visible by the discharge from her "back end" (green discharge) which indicates that the placentas were starting to deteriorate (a puppy's lifeline).  We told them we were not comfortable with the young vet and that she wasn't listening and we needed a c-section for Myiah and another vet to attend to her asap.

We didn't know it previously, but the vet that was going to do the c-section earlier that morning was actually the owner of the clinic who lives next door and they called him in and he immediately agreed that she needed the c-section and we were able to get things underway for Myiah again.

Here is the next strange part -- after the c-section the owner/vet came out and told us that he and his team "took out 11 puppies during the c-section" and that all went well and we'd be able to see the puppies soon after they set up a room again, as we requested to be with Myiah immediately so that we could monitor her as they had already lost a puppy on their watch and we didn't trust them anymore.  He specifically only came in to perform the c-section but we were stuck with the young vet until the next shift change after the c-section was performed.  We clarified the puppy count and asked a technician if there were 11 live puppies knowing that they had already lost one puppy -- the technician confirmed 11 puppies (and the 1 deceased puppy made 12).  But when they finally brought Myiah and her puppies into the room, we were shocked, saddened and disappointed to only see 10 puppies -- please also bear in mind that the x-ray shows 12 puppies.

We confronted and questioned them as to why there was only 10 puppies in the box and demanded more answers, and sadly they would not admit what happened or the cause of death for another puppy, but we demanded answers, and it was finally agreed to financially compensate us through a minimal discount for their negligence of loosing two puppies and the stress they caused for Myiah and ourselves.  The bill was still atrocious, but they at least owned up to their mistakes in a small discount.

Myiah was not coming out of her anesthesia well and was nauseated, throwing up, and still lethargic. We tried to get anti-nausea medication for her, pain meds, and anti-biotics to help her along, but they refused on the basis that some medications can be passed through the milk -- we listed off ones that we knew were safe based on our past experience -- but they were too arrogant to look up safe medication for Myiah and left us alone in the back room for another couple of hours.  And after several more hours of asking them to check Myiah, asking for more care, getting very frustrated, they finally told us to take her home to monitor her and that she should improve.

We knew this wasn't going to be the case due to her condition, but they obviously were not willing to do more for Myiah, and we were forced to return home (driving from 12am to 5am after stopping several times for care of Myiah and her puppies).  By 8am, just 3 hours after arriving home Myiah was showing signs of possible infection and unable to keep down liquid or food (experience tells us that it's from ruptured placentas).  All other emergency clinics were once again full, and we were forced to go back to that same clinic and demand proper medication and care.  After 3 trips there and back again -- we were understandably very frustrated and not feeling as though they were going to help, but we were surprised to have the owner/vet back waiting for us and he had the young vet there to apologize to us and smooth things over. The owner/vet looked up "puppy safe" medication for Myiah that is not be passed through the milk to her puppies, and he confirmed that she had a fever and he got us anti-nausea meds, pain meds, and anti-biotics.

We're home now with Myiah and she has had her first dose of meds as of 5:30 PM -- so far she is keeping food and water down (first time in 2 days) and we are continuing to monitor that she is improving while balancing a fine line of letting her puppies nurse (because they need to receive colostrum from her), supplementing with puppy formula (which also contains colostrum, although nothing is as good as mom's milk), making sure she eats, and that all is now on the track to improvement and recovery.

We're sharing all of this so that maybe you can glean something from this experience where a vet won't listen to you -- it's important that you firmly repeat what you need for care and to advocate for your dog.  In emergencies you can get stuck going to the only clinic that has capacity to take your dog whether you like it or not -- medical care is needed, just don't let them silence you because your gut instinct is always right.

We will take better photos of the puppies within the next couple of days -- and we will let you see Myiah with her babies, but we need to look after Myiah and her puppies to ensure that they continue to do well.

There is 1 Red, 1 Black (may lighten with age), 1 Tri-colour (black and white with tan eye-brows), 1 Brown Sable Phantom, and 1 White, and 5 White with Red Patches.  From our experience with past litters we can tell you that any Cavalier mix puppies are often born with lighter patches that will darken and become more prominent -- the puppies have more markings on their faces than are visible at this newly born stage, and any lighter areas around the ears, face, or on the back will darken on any puppies with lighter patches.  It all depends on how much fur a puppy is born with which will vary from puppy-to-puppy. And all puppies that are white with patches of colour (regardless of colour), will often have flecking or freckles develop over time with age for more cute colour!  Here is a photo of the puppies that was snapped at the vet clinic when we received them in a room after the c-section:

We wanted to get this update off to you, as a lot has been happening for Myiah and her puppies.  Myiah is definitely improving and we are happy with what we see now that we are home with proper medication for this sweet momma!

It has been quite the ordeal for Myiah, her puppies, and for us, but we are greatly looking forward to sharing this beautiful litter with you!

Please reach out if you have any questions!

We have successfully done a *similar* mixture x3 before with our (now retired) Springalier female, Adaeze, and they were a raving success in beauty, health, temperament and structure -- we have had multiple families returning for a 2nd puppy from all of these litters. A "Springalier" is a mixture of the English Springer Spaniel and the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, and the reason why it is relevant to Myiah and Arlo's litter as an example is because the English Springer Spaniel and the English Cocker Spaniel were originally the *same breed* and the two breeds only diverged and became classified as two separate breeds due to size variance. They are essentially still the same breed today, except that the English Cocker Spaniel is smaller than the English Springer Spaniel and they hunt different species based on their size.

Below are examples of our past "Springalierpoo" puppies, also called "Splash Cavapoos" because they have a "splash" of another spaniel breed in them for health diversity and longevity:
