We have raised the Cavapoo for 18 years and we have been blessed with a Cavalier line that has been very healthy and our Cavapoos are among the healthiest in Canada. However, as much as we love the Cavapoo we have also been among the first to sound the alarm that the purebred Cavalier King Charles Spaniel is a very unhealthy breed and its health has degraded over the past 10 years to the point where we firmly believe that the purebred Cavalier breed is too far gone to be saved! The heart issues in the purebred Cavalier cannot be rectified without an intervention from the Kennel Clubs to allow other breeds to be mixed in to rebuild the Cavalier from the ground up! They have done this with the Dalmatian (look up "LUA Dalmatians") and fixed the chronic uric acid issues in the breed by mixing in the Pointer and the Kennel Clubs are now registering these dogs as purebred. Countries like Norway have banned the breeding of *purebred* Cavalier King Charles Spaniel because of the multiple health issues caused by inbreeding and popularity breeding (it is illegal and considered unethical in Norway), and the Kennel Clubs in Finland and Sweden have teamed up together in starting a cross-breeding program to breed different breeds without shared health concerns that also have similar temperament to the Cavalier in order to hopefully restore and breed health and gene diversity back into the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel. We fully support this movement and want to see the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel restored and improved to be health once again. We have found that the F1B to F2BB Cavapoo is the healthiest of all Cavapoos because of their diversity of new blood added in through the Poodle and with proper health screening you can have the security of 3 or more generations of health clear dogs in their lineage -- our dogs have up to 5 generations of health-cleared dogs behind them! Over the next few years, we will continue to raise the higher generation of Cavapoo with our remaining healthy and trusted lines alongside the Brittanypoo for those who want more of an F1-type. Other breeders are starting to wake up to the plight of the purebred Cavalier and we are seeing a few litters from other breeders coming from health-screened parents, but the cross-breeding programs that have been started overseas to try and breed other breeds into the Cavalier to improve their genetic diversity but it will take time before we see results! We have (as of Nov. 2022) also seen a few Cavapoo litters pop up over Canada as other breeders begin to follow suit and realize the importance of health and that the health screened higher-generation Cavapoo is the safest Cavapoo. At Pleasant Meadows, we will ONLY raise the higher-generation Cavapoos as the prior generations are simply too close to the purebred Cavalier to guarantee them to be healthy. We have a 18 year history of health-cleared dogs which gives us complete trust of our lines and we offer a 5 year genetic health guarantee when your puppy is fed a balanced raw species appropriate diet.

A Note Regarding Celina: You may notice that while Celina is featured here amongst our active dogs, she also remains listed on our "Retired" page. Bringing a dog out of retirement is an exceedingly rare decision for our programme, but the foundational genetics she carries are simply too valuable to let slip away. As we reflect on our 18 years of breeding, this specific pairing represents our very last chance to capture the authentic purity of her foundational lineage and pass it on to the next generation.
At six years of age, Celina is well within her physical and reproductive prime from both a veterinary and professional breeding standpoint. She possesses excellent cardiovascular health—a particularly significant and celebrated achievement given the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel influence in her lineage. Furthermore, she is an exceptionally seasoned dam who has consistently demonstrated robust, vigorous, and completely natural whelpings. Because her physical condition, vitality, and maternal history remain absolutely pristine, we felt it was vital to allow her one final legacy litter. Leaving her original retirement status visible across the website is our way of maintaining complete transparency with our families, honouring her incredible journey, and acknowledging that this is a special, one-time return before she permanently resumes her well-earned rest.
Cavapoo (18.25% Cavalier -- 81.75% Poodle)
Specifically for Caidi: While her appearance may surprise many, Caidi's specific "look" is no different than any other Cavapoo in terms of her structure. The difference is that Caidi is without "furnishings". Take a peek at her father, Reuben (Retired Dog section), who is a 50/50 mix between the Cavalier and Poodle who also does not have furnishings. What are furnishings? That's the gene that controls whether or not your Poodle cross-breed will have fluffy curls (like our other Cavapoos) or a smooth wavy/curly coat like Caidi, or Eadyn (half sister) and Reuben (father). Caidi can produce curly coats when bred to a Poodle, so don't worry if that's the look you are aiming for, but the non-furnished pups are our most requested fur type for those with zero to mild allergies. And if you want another comparison -- take a look at the eye set and nose of "Willow" (entirely unrelated to Caidi) and you will see that they are nearly identical with exception of their fur, but we trimmed Willow's face short for her current photo which gives a unintentional comparison. Comparing Caidi to Willow you can clearly see that fur is "everything" when it comes to how your Cavapoo looks, and the cool part is that you can choose a puppy like Caidi, like Willow, or ones that are even curlier.
And if Caidi had furnishings she would look similar to Tulie (and Caidi will produce puppies with curls when bred to a Poodle).
Please Note: Lindor's face and body are trimmed short in a fun summer cut giving her "bell-bottoms", and it kind of became her iconic look! Her fur is as long as other furnished Cavapoos when it's not trimmed!

We do not currently have any active Cavaliers.
We are focusing on our Cavapoo line for a healthier and sustainable Cavapoo, and can instead offer a genetically healthy Cavapoo with nearly 2 decades of health screening behind them, alongside the occasional Cavapoo mix containing the Tibetan Spaniel, or the Springer Spaniel for those who want a more F1-type mix and/or a genetically diverse Cavapoo.
The *purebred* Cavalier King Charles Spaniel is NOT a healthy breed anymore and we no longer raise the *purebred* Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, but we support Cavalier rescue and ethical breeding practices to rebuild the Cavalier as a healthier breed in the future.
Our breeding line is established by following the recommendation of Scientists and Geneticists to breed dogs that have a 3 or more generations of health screening behind them. We have up to 5 generations of health clear parents behind our current lines and as per guidelines and breeding strategies from the scientists at the University of Edinburgh’s Roslin Institute from their recommendations which have reviewed the various approaches that are being taken to minimize potential defects in pedigree animals -- for our lines, we ebb and flow between adding in more Cavapoo bloodlines from lower generations or more Poodle into our established lines, and we ensure to only add in new blood (which gives diversity) from other breeders who are also committed to only breeding healthy dogs. This allows for a strong family line of Cavapoos where you have the assurance of the breeder's innate knowledge of that established family line for good temperament and characteristic traits as well as the established genetic health being preserved and maintained while also adding new bloodlines that compliment or improve the family line through the added gene diversity and heterozygosity of new blood. We are proud to be able to ensure that we provide families with puppies that are non-shedding for allergy sufferers, and most importantly, puppies that we can guarantee to be healthy. All of our puppies come with up to a 5-year genetic health guarantee depending on the diet fed in their new home which also impacts the overall health of a dog!
We raise the Cavapoo and other Cavalier cross-breeds, as per the ethical breeding practices based on trials and studies done on minimizing the genetic defects in dogs through breeding strategies from the scientists at the University of Edinburgh’s Roslin Institut from their recommendations which have reviewed the various approaches to minimize potential defects in dogs, and especially for breeds like the *purebred* Cavalier King Charles Spaniel and the need for out-crossing to unrelated dogs for diversity and health, while still maintaining a family line to retain predictability of traits, and sustainability of health and type. The UK Kennel Club joins the team in supporting the healthy cross-breeding of Cavalier King Charles Spaniels in effort to breed back the health and vitality of the breed through other breeds.

Specifically for Tibby AND Tanny: Tibby and Tanny are a mix between the Cavalier and the Tibetan. The purpose of their mix is to add breed diversity and health into the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel and the Cavapoo which is now being done through the Kennel Clubs in countries like Finland, Sweden, Denmark, the UK, and Australia in cross-breeding programs to improve the health and vitality of the purebred Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, similar to what has already been done with the LUA Dalmatian (which is a cross between the Pointer and the Dalmatian to fix the chronic uric acid issues within the Dalmatian -- LUA = Low Uric Acid). The Tibetan Spaniel is long-lived which makes it an excellent addition to the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel to improve the diversity and health and health and they are similar to the Cavalier in the way the Tibetan Spaniels were also not used for hunting -- their sole role was companionship to the monks (like the Cavalier was a companion of the King Charles II).

Specifically for Cork: Cork is a mix between the Springer, Cavalier, and Poodle. The purpose of her mix is to add breed diversity and health into the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel and the Cavapoo which is now being done through the Kennel Clubs in countries like Finland, Sweden, Denmark, the UK, and Australia in cross-breeding programs to improve the health and vitality of the purebred Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, similar to what has already been done with the LUA Dalmatian (which is a cross between the Pointer and the Dalmatian to fix the chronic uric acid issues within the Dalmatian -- LUA = Low Uric Acid). While her look surprises many, Eadyn's appearance is no different than any other Cavapoo without "furnishings". Take a peek at her father, Reuben (Cavapoo section), who is a 50/50 mix between the Cavalier and Poodle who also does not have furnishings. What are furnishings? Miniature Poodle
Meet Monty, a sweet 1.5-year-old boy who has clear genetic health testing and a wonderful, gentle temperament around our other dogs and puppies. He is exceptionally well-socialized and able to intermingle wonderfully in a group setting with other dogs. He is your typical Poodle and is a bit shy meeting strangers, but he has a wonderful friendly and playful spirit with his people. He would do well with adults or teenagers; we do not believe he has an issue with kids, but he has not been around young children to our knowledge.
He is completely up-to-date on his vaccines, and a link to his full profile showing his health screening and size can be found by clicking the name tag under his picture. While he is active and engaged during play, he really isn't a high-energy boy. One to two walks with access to a backyard is plenty to keep him happy and settled. He is thoroughly crate trained for nighttime, as well as for time-appropriate naps or scheduled quiet times during the day. As he is an intact stud, he will mark occasionally when girls are in heat, but he isn't horrible. Belly bands can easily be used during these times, and this marking behaviour will naturally decrease when he is neutered if he goes to a pet home.
Unfortunately, we have found that the colours he carries are not what we are looking for in our program. While we explicitly do not breed for colour, Monty—even though he presents as white—actually tests positive for two copies of the parti gene. We were originally looking for a solid-coloured stud so that we do not produce extreme whites, which are parti puppies that carry too much white on their coats. We wanted to align more closely with the specific shades that families are typically hoping to find, and we were quite surprised when his genetic testing returned as parti.
Nonetheless, we gave Monty a chance to prove himself as a sire, and he truly delivered by producing a stunning litter of apricot parti and black parti puppies. We certainly believe these puppies are exceptionally beautiful, displaying highly intelligent minds and gorgeous coats. Furthermore, we have received glowing, excellent reports from every single family that welcomed one of his puppies into their home. However, despite these wonderful successes, we must remain disciplined and stick firmly to our core breeding goals.

To explain exactly what he brings to the table with these genetics, his panel offers absolute control for your breeding outcomes. Because Monty is e/e (two copies of red), breeding him to a red-based (e/e) female guarantees a litter entirely of creams, apricots, and reds, depending on the female's red intensity. If you breed him to a solid red female, red abstract is also possible. In an e/e pairing, those genes mask the expression of the A locus, ensuring you get entirely red-spectrum puppies.
What makes his panel highly versatile for other pairings is his KB/KB (Dominant Black) status. While his red coat (e/e) currently masks his K locus, he will pass a KB allele to 100% of his offspring. This means if you choose to breed him to a female who is E/E or E/e, his KB allele will completely mask the expression of the A locus in those puppies. For breeders specifically focusing on producing striking solid or parti lines, this gives you total genetic control—he guarantees you will get beautifully predictable solid or parti coats, as the A locus patterns (like tan points, sable, or agouti) will not physically express in his direct first-generation offspring. It allows a program to completely lock in their desired solid or parti expressions with zero guesswork.
As an sp/sp, he will always pass on the parti gene, guaranteeing parti carriers or full parti offspring depending on your female, allowing you to easily map out those desirable patterns. Add in his F/F (two copies of furnishings) and sd/sd (low shedding) traits, and he provides incredible consistency for coat type and structural quality across your litters.
