8 week old vet update:

Ceyda's puppies are now 8 weeks old and today they were at the vet for their 8-week health examination -- all of the puppies were found to be in excellent health!  The puppies were calm throughout their exams, and whenever the opportunity arose they were giving kisses and/or wagging tails!

-  Eyes  (checked for abnormalities or discharge, and the vet will look at the internal eye with an ophthalmoscope)

-  Ears  (checked for redness/infection or the presence of mites, and the vet will look in the ear with an otoscope)

-  Mouth & throat   (checked for gum colour, swallow reflex, and teeth alignment)

Heart  (checked for irregular heartbeat patterns or murmurs)

-  Lungs  (checked for rhythmic breaths and clarity of lungs)

-  Stomach palpitation  (checked for any signs of bloating, discomfort, or the presence of a hernia)

-  Flexion of joints  (checked for fluid movement of joints in the hips, knees, and elbows)

-  Postural Reflexes  (the "paw flip test" checks for proper neurological function where the paw is flipped under so the pads face upwards towards the belly. This is done to see how quickly the puppy rights it's paw so that the pads are flat on the ground/surface again the way a dog would normally bear weight/stand)

Equilibrium  (checked balance by turning the puppy on it's back to make sure the puppy can roll upright again, and assessing the gait of a puppy)

-  Temperature  (checked for normal body temperature)

-  Weight  (checked for healthy weight and growth rate)

And the puppies received:

-  1st vaccine that covers Parvovirus, Distemper, CAV2-Hepatitis, and Parainfluenza

-  Strongid T dewormer according to weight

Their weights at the vet were as follows:

Jenna -- 6.4 pounds

Kaylie -- 4.6 pounds

Shondae -- 4.4 pounds

Melody -- 4.8 pounds

Nina -- 4.6 pounds

Ollie -- 5.6 pounds

Benji -- 5.6 pounds

Our vet also had a cool new device that gives a live ECG showing the heartbeat that our vet listens to through the stethoscope.  Here is a video clip of Ceyda's heart being listened to during her exam, and also a video clip of Shondae's heart being listened to just so you can see what we are talking about:

And here are a couple more photos from the vet visit:

Ceyda's puppies did well traveling to and from the vet (1 hour and 15 minutes *one way*) and we are so proud of them!

The pups are doing great on their outdoor potty training exposure and have seen both sunshine and rain on their outdoor adventures!  We recommend taking your puppy outside approximately every hour that they are awake, after waking up from a nap/sleep, after eating/drinking, or after play time.  And only use potty-pads when you are unable to take your puppy outside, and don't forget to use the crate and/or puppy pen for a safe place for your puppy to stay while you are busy and can't monitor your puppy.

We are making it easy for the families receiving a puppy regarding the raw feeding and will have pre-portioned meals for their daily amount.  Each puppy is eating approximately 110 grams of food 3x's per day
(morning, afternoon, and evening).  If you are switching their food over to dry food, please start adding in a few kibbles (you may need to soften them in water) on day two in your home and slowly increase the amount over the course of 10 days and decrease the amount of raw food (which will extend it so you have enough to switch).  We do recommend remaining on a raw diet, or at the minimum feeding fresh dog-safe fruits and vegetables as toppers and treats. Below is an in depth and invaluable source of info on feeding a raw diet:  (click link box)

Ceyda's puppies have had lots of crate exposure while spending time in it during pen changing and for sleeping -- they are all doing great and hopefully will continue that when they go home.  We have their scent blankets ready with littermates' and mom's scent.

We are also very impressed with the puppies ability to "sit"!  The update has taken a little bit longer to post due to the complexity of this photo, as it did understandably take a few attempts to get their attention all at once and looking in the right direction because the puppies were spread out -- but the results are amazing:

We look forward to seeing the families soon for pick up, and also to help the newest families on the list to choose their puppy soon on the weekend!

This is a litter that we will miss, but we are so happy that we could keep Shondae as a future star here at Pleasant Meadows.

6 week old puppy update:

Here is the second half of Ceyda's puppies 6 week update and we want to thank the families for being patient and understanding -- we know it's so hard to wait for photos!

The puppies had a blast meeting families past weekend and week, and after some families selected puppies from Vera's litter, we have 3 puppies Jenna, Kaylie, and Ollie available within this litter -- so please share with your family and friends!

We are continuing to expose the puppies to various sights and sounds -- today the puppies got to see the vacuum in real life instead of just hearing a recording, and they did pretty good and Benji even came over and checked it out at the end of their desensitization -- watch and see:

The puppies have also enjoyed lots of time outside in the sun, as you saw in the partial update we posted yesterday.  We are very pleased with how the litter as a whole handles new situations!

The puppies are officially weaned from nursing Ceyda and they are loving their food!  We are in the process of figuring out what each puppy is eating, and will send the puppies home with pre-portioned meals to make the first week easier on the families receiving a puppy.

Below are the puppies weights for this week for their deworming weigh-in:

We have a rain storm rolling in and the power has already flickered and shut out computer off once -- so ending here to get the update off to you quickly
!

Please feel free to let us know a pick up day/time for the 8 week mark!

Have a good evening!

6 week old puppy partial update:

Ceyda's puppies are 6 weeks old today and they had their first outdoor experience today, and we are so proud of how they handled it!  They had a blast romping around, checking out the grass and playing!  You can literally hear their excitement and they seemed to love feeling the warmth of the sun above them and ground beneath them.  Check out the video:

With some of Vera's puppies leaving for their new homes today, we weren't able to co-ordinate snapping photos of Ceyda's puppies for their update between our other duties and care/tasks with the dogs and puppies, and so we will split the update and take photos of the puppies tomorrow.  We trust that seeing the puppies in action will be a good compromise and we will try to get the rest of the update off to you by the early evening (tomorrow) -- thank you for your understanding!

5 week puppy matches:

Puppy choosing has started for Ceyda's puppies and we had a great time helping the first family choose their puppy, and we look forward to meeting the other families soon!  Check back here to see which puppies are chosen as the matches happen:

4 week old puppy update:

Ceyda's puppies are now 4 weeks of age!  They have grown into adorable "little dogs" and changed so much from their "baby" photos in their 2 week update!  We love what we see in their emerging temperaments as well -- in all of the puppies we can see their happy and gentle nature which we expected from Ceyda based on her past litters and what we hoped to see from Micah when paired with Ceyda.  The puppies are beginning to engage in play and interact with us -- tails wagging and loving cuddles!

We did overall grooming with the puppies today with the fur by their eyes being trimmed, nails being trimmed, and a general wipe down with puppy wipes.  They were placid and relaxed during the whole process and seemed to enjoy the extra "attention" -- we are so very impressed with all of the puppies!

The puppies have been enjoying the addition of raw food to their diet which is a more natural way of weaning and feeding of puppies that is more in alignment to the timing of their wild roots when wolf pups would be introduced to meat for the first time and is appropriate food throughout their life. Ceyda's puppies have plunged head first into eating raw food, but they still have full access to nurse from Ceyda.

We dewormed the puppies again today as a part of their regular deworming schedule which is important for the health of all puppies-- which should be dewormed every 2 weeks until 8 weeks of age and also at 10, 12, and 16 weeks of age, and at least 1-2 times yearly after that!

Here are the puppies weights for this week

To conclude their 4-week update we h
ave a video of the puppies playing with some of their toys and romping with their siblings:

2 week old puppy update:

Ceyda's puppies are now 2 weeks old, and this up-coming week will be full of new experiences for them! Their eyes are just beginning to open, some with two eyes open, others with one eye open, or "peeking" in the corners of their eyes. We are noticing how strong the puppies are, in fact, "Jenna" the Phantom Girl was strong enough and wanted to sit up for her final photo (shown below) which is remarkable at this age.  All of the puppies are strong enough to take a few steps on their wobbly legs and move around the whelping box with ease!  Once their eyes are fully open (and their ears open at this stage too) they will be unstoppable!

We will be providing an array of toys of lots of colours, textures, and sounds (rattles, crinkles, and squeaks) to encourage intellectual stimulation and play. Sometimes it can be overwhelming for puppies to see and hear so many new sights and sounds, but we fully expect Ceyda's puppies to take it in stride as they are overall a very relaxed and confident group of puppies.  It took minimal effort on our part to get the puppies settled for their photos today, as they were so calm on the photo set!

At 2 weeks of age, we start deworming our puppies as a part of our routine regimen of care from now through to 8 weeks old
(deworming every 2 weeks).  Ceyda also received a dewormer along with her puppies as worms can be passed down through the milk and it's proper care to deworm the mother too!  A part of deworming requires weighing of the puppies to ensure the correct dosage, and the puppies individual weights can be found below:

Before their photos were taken today, the puppies had their first grooming session where we trimmed their nails, cut the fur in front of their eyes, and wiped them down with puppy wipes.  All of this counts towards the overall desensitization of a litter by exposing them to various procedures that will be commonplace throughout their lives.  They will experience this and more during the next 6 weeks here at Pleasant Meadows.

The puppies will also be starting on goats milk this week and pr
ogress to a goats milk and raw meat slurry by 3 weeks of age. In the wild, wolves would naturally be starting to eat fresh meat around this time, and so it is the perfect time to start puppies on eating food as *all dogs* are 99% wolf (no matter what their breed).  The pups will still have full access to nurse from Ceyda, as we only provide supplemental feeding in a gradual process that prevents the mom from being depleted and allows the puppies to graduate to new food slowly and naturally over several weeks.  Our puppies are not weaned completely from their mother until 5 weeks with only comfort slurps from their mom until 6 weeks, and mom stays with her puppies to teach vital socialization play and communication cues right up to 8 weeks of age.  This allows us to focus the final 2 weeks on getting the puppies on a feeding schedule and ready for going home.

We will be providing the link to our Taking Home Puppy Online Instructional in the e-mail sent out notifying the families on this list of this 2-week update -- so please check your e-mail for more info!

Here is another video of the puppies in addition to the ones that families on this list received via e-mail a 5 days ago, it's amazing to see how much more strength the puppies possess, not even a week later:

Our next scheduled puppy update will be on  April 13th  when the puppies turn 4 weeks of age.

We will be keeping "Shondae" as our keeper puppy in this litter.

Here are a few more photos of Ceyda with her puppies to sign off their 2 week update:

Birth Announcement:

Ceyda has given birth to 7 adorable puppies on March 16th, 2023. The colouration of these puppies are more of what we anticipated to see from this pairing (when compared to her sister Vera's litter), ranging from White with Red patches, Phantom (Black & Tan), Tuxedo Tri-Colour, Black Parti, to Black, and it is nice to see such variety!  Two of the puppies are smaller, closer to what we saw from Vera and Micah, but they are keeping up with their larger siblings without any difficulty.

We have noted it in the past, but it was clear once again, how quickly and easily our females birth on a raw-fed diet -- and the birthing process for Ceyda went smoothly with her puppies being born between 4:49 PM and 6:25 PM. This is Ceyda's third litter for us and she is a wonderful devoted mother who nurtures her puppies with a calm confidence.

All of the puppies are nursing well and are very strong and able to move themselves around the box with relative ease.  Speaking of the box, we are trying a new box from Artemis Whelping Supplies, a Canadian company that we have used in the past when special orders were needed for our larger Standard Poodles, and Artemis also have puppy pens that we recommend to our customers as well.  The box is made of a soft fabric that is easily removed from the frame and it is 100% machine washable. It will allow us to create a softer environment for the puppies to grow up in during their first few weeks while still keeping them safe with the guard rails that help to prevent a mother dog from accidently squishing a puppy between her body and the sidewall of the box.

If you are curious about what these puppies could look like, pictured below is Ceyda's 2022 litter showing what Black Parti Brittanydoodles look like, and we have also included examples of what "Tuxedo Tri"
(Poodle example) and "Phantom" (Cavapoo example) looks like:

We will be keeping a puppy from this pairing as a part of our plans to further our future Brittanydoodles here at Pleasant Meadows.  We had the option of selecting from either Vera's litter or Ceyda's litter with their birthing dates being so close -- and we will be choosing a puppy from Ceyda's litter as it is more in line with the colouration we hope to sustain in our future Brittanydoodles.  We will announce which female puppy we will be keeping by the 4-week puppy update so that those on the list know which puppy is unavailable before puppy-choosing.

From left to right in the photo below
-- the puppy's colourations are:

Black Parti ...
(White with Black patches) -- FEMALE
Tuxedo Tri
... (White Tuxedo marking on Black with Tan Points) -- MALE
Black Phantom ...
(Black with Tan Points) -- MALE
Red Parti ...
(White with Red patches) -- FEMALE
Black Phantom ...
(Black and Tan Points) -- FEMALE
Tuxedo Tri ...
(White Tuxedo marking on Black with Tan Points) -- FEMALE
Black ...
(Mostly solid black) -- FEMALE

We will be considering the Black Parti Female and the Tuxedo Tri Female (but will only select one).

The tan-point markings will become more visible on the puppies with age, and any white markings will be more visible in future photos.

The next scheduled puppy update for this litter will be when the puppies turn 2 weeks of age on  March 30th, 2023.

We will be juggling e-mailing families for this litter and also for Vera's litter for the puppy-choosing scheduling for those on both lists as well as any newcomers, so please be patient!
